So anybody know if there is a replacement for the back shocks(struts) on a 89 escort? Ive spent hours trying but no luck, maybe there is a shop that can rebuild them?

That's weird. I know it's not a huge market but there are still cars on the road that need these parts.

Interesting that the part number is F7AZ18125NA .
That implies a '97 model year, could it be that the same part is used all the way back?

Edit: Seems to be a bad number, at least on ebay. Check that part number with a Ford dealer.

Yeah, that's obviously not right. I should have caught that.

definitely not the same as a 97. the 1st gen is captured by the spindle IIRC and the 2/3g is a bolt on. there should be a list of part numbers in the refrence section. but this has been a problem for a while, there are hardly any rear shocks left on the planet for 1st gens

AutoZone RARELY has them, once in a blue moon. Matter of fact they were recently in stock, out of stock now unfortunately. I'm in a similar boat and am in need of rear shocks, only other semi reliable place to get em is Europe. I've seen these posted on this forum before, have no way to verify them myself but they're worth looking into. Hope this helps some, 80s Ford OEM parts are a mess.

That's curious that Autozone sometimes has them. Where are they getting them from?
I guess the chances of the manufacturer making another run of them is low. If they did, it would be a good idea to get two sets.

Guys we say this every month, if you need 1981-1990 rear shocks you HAVE to get them from Europe. Look under "MK3" & "MK4" Escorts, UK Ebay & Burton Power are your only 2 options. I know it's expensive and shipping time sucks but that's your only option, no one has made them here in years. If you have Konis they're rebuildable otherwise you're buying from overseas.

Occasionally you can find closeout shocks on eBay or RockAuto but they're always 3+ years old (last time any were produced was 2019) and are never available in pairs so I don't even bother with them, others have had issues with them being bad out of the box just because they've all been on shelfs for so longs. So don't even bother with that headache and just get the stuff from Britain.

Well Scott, it looks like you sourced the struts finally, congratulations! Let us know when they come and you verify that they really work.
A hundred bucks for two quality struts that are extinct in North America seems like a good deal.

And the link in post #15 still shows the wrong part when I view it.
