The only thing that would work was the open end of a 7mm wrench. Emphasis on open end. Since I still have the plug out perhaps I should try everything again to see if anything else will fit, but that seems unlikely (and I tried a bunch of things). It's as if they are making it difficult to do this on purpose.

It's some weird size where 1/4" was too small and 5/16" was too big.

    Quotes for transmission replacement:

    Glen Burnie Transmissions
$2695 installed plus tax for a Certified remanufactured transmission with a 3yr/100000 mile warranty
$1895 installed plus tax for a used transmission with a 6 month warranty.

    Dorsey Transmission
Sorry but none of our vendors are building that unit anymore. I could not locate a used one.

    Is car-part.com broken???

My search for a rebuilt F4EAT took .67 seconds on google.

Dorsey trans is really saying they dont want to bother with your problem.

This transmission isn't expensive enough for them to want to fix it.

And this is reason enough not to spend real money on this car at this point:

I got $290 for the car from Peddle.com This is $45 more than what the local JY would have given me, and they came and picked it up:

I wonder if it will see the road again, or just go to the junkyard.

It would be nice to see complete cars go to Mexico or other countries where it is economical to fix them up.

Quite a few cars do go to Mexico - to be fixed up. It has been affecting junkyard prices in deep south texas, where the MX repair industry comes to scrounge for repair parts.

I wonder if that will show up in the internet. I plan on searching the VIN periodically to see if it shows up.

Many years ago I was at a junkyard in a large Canadian city where the workers were taking off lots of parts from older Japanese cars and putting them in a container, they said they were going to Malaysia where lots of these cars are still maintained.
