No, I'm referring to the AWD system they're using in the current generation Skyline/G35. It was not designed with performance in mind, as the AWD systems you listed were. This is for better traction in slippery conditions.

See: Difference between all-wheel-drive in an Mitsubishi EVO and a Toyota RAV-4. :)

Tito, I have to disagree. If you read these two articles, the AWD system in the R34 is the same as what's going into the G35/Z/"Skyline." The only exception would be the V-Spec R34, which got an even more sophisticated system.

The main difference between the two is the system in the G35 is ompletely computer controlled, whereas the R34 had an option to manually disable it for 100% rear wheel drive. Also, the R34 had limited slip differentials, whereas I belive the Z's are both open   Smart, Nissan, go take the skyline AWD and mate it to open differentials.

I agree though, the Z will never be able to sustain the reputation the R34 built. In several racing series in japan, the R34 was flat out banned because it was such an incredible car. Nothing could come close to matching it. In a straight line, at speed, its closest compeditor was the Supra, and even that was miles behind. I wish Nissan had brought the R34 over here, rather than replacing it with the crappy Z, but thats what happens hen you get bought by the French (Renault). The focus shifts from performance, to mass production.
