This is the new wiring drawing for any one who has swapped in 2.0 SPI motor in to a second gen Escort. The wiring has'nt changed from the old drawing, just a new look.
Some ppl were having trouble getting it to work right. I have found a few thing should help. I had to set it for 2000 RPM's then use the Adjustment Dial to find 3000 RPM's. Also if the RPMs hang right at the RPM set point, the RPM switch will cause the relay to oscillate or Buzz, to stop this I have added a 220uf capacitor.

Damn, you're a nice guy.

I already made mine though, it wasn't bad at all. I mainly wanted to buy one pre-fabbed due to the whole time thing.

Thanks for the offer

I don't know where to put this, here seems as good a place as any...

What if an SPI controller was set up based on MAF voltage? It seems that when the spi butterflys need to open is more dependant on air flow than on rpm. That might get rid of some of the bogging at part throttle that some people have...

Just a thought

I have no electrical experience. If i were to order the parts and ship em to someone who can put it together, would someone do this for me??? I would just ship the parts from summitracing and radioshack.com to someone.

PM AND email me if someone is willing to help.

I will make you one if no one else will. I made my own and it is much better using a small Pic processor. Just tell me the RPM you want it to turn on at. Jeff can probably tell you better than I can, but 3,000 seems about right. I don’t let it turn back off until 2800 so that is what the capacitor is doing … sort of.

If you want to read all about it you can look at my webpage on it. I also made a digital tachometer while I was at it since you need the RPM information anyway!

I don't look here often so you will need to email me if you want help. You can even bring the car over and put it on in my shop … I am in Jonesville, VA. about 5 hour drive.

I will be going to the track at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw on March 10th also ... could bring one then.

Where is the best place to mount this? Under the passenger seat seems clean... sorta. Alot of wires but I tink it could work there. Plan on building this thing before I even do the swap, that way it's waiting for installation when the time comes. Might need help dialing it in, though.

The guys over at 3.8Mustang.com were baffled when I posted that Jeff had a solution for IMRC's, they had been removing them or wiring them open on the 3.8 and 4.2 V6's when swapping them into pre-99 'stangs. They were saying, Wow that's really cool way of handling that. That's awesome. It just goes to show, the Escort boys are more resourceful.

I reading as fast as I can so be patient with me. Has anyone had any experience with the SPI controller from EFP?

It doesn't say when it comes on exactly and it says engagement is instant. Any drawbacks to this? It isn't cheap, but for those who want a plug and play solution it could work right?
