I agree that is has gotten a little hostile here. I´ve only been on a while, but there is a lot of "snippyness" going around. We all need someone or something to vent on, I should know, but i think taking your day out on someones post or just starting hateful threads is pretty lame.
I like coming here, and appreciate all the help you guys/gals give, but maybe we should just take the time to think before we type. (*message*)

Yes i do realize this is a private owned forum and i do bow down that its your forum...However, w/ out us, YOU DONT HAVE CRAP...pleanty of ppl liike james and a few others if they just stopped posting, this site would lose a lot of activity. When i visited this site back in november, it sucked, real bad. then more ppl came along and the forums picked up and it became worth it to join up.
Now, this whole not cussing rule... welp, here´s my opinion...
u say we´re immature for cussing, the ones who act like kids well as we all know, sometimes cuss words at more meaning to a post. yes sometimes its excessive, but at the same time, it adds bigtime attention..most ppl like that stuff... Its the whiny ppl that think that cussing is bad...ohh nooo someone said ppl cuss on this forum...most forums i join, i try to find one where there arent huge rules...its not fun to get banned, its not fun to have to worry wether the moderators(dictators) are gonna bitch(adds meaning). But here, i didnt find that, i found a free flowing nice organized forum that had a vast amout of possibilty in post. I´m sorry but i know i´m not alone here, just no one will speak up. I know that some of you like the free speech aspect...without it, it loses something..makes me feel binded by something... I dont cuss a huge amount, but i have had some posts w/ some words that little kids shouldnt see. But hey, if ur on this site, chances are its cuz u have an escort and in dunno bout everyone else, but i believe u have to be atleast 15 and a half to drive it. which means umm...old enough to hear cuss words..
Also, theres a great saying out there..."if u dont like it, YOU DONT HAVE TO READ, WATCH, OR LISTEN....George carlin said that once." Its just like those catholics who tried to get Dogma banned...cry about it i tell them.
So to sum it up, i think the non cussing rule is kinda kiddish...I say shame on you guys for trying to conform as everyone else. I totaly agree as does SLAPYO. That is why I said several times that I´m probably the biggest offender of this. I do feel it should be kept as low as possible. I will swear on this board in the future. I know others will too. I just ask you try to use common sense and try not to swear where it isn´t needed. I´m not going to turn on a language filter or read every post to check for it. I have a little more of a life than that. However, If I see it getting out of hand or if someone else mentions it to me I´ll look into it. I´ll probably warn you way more than I should. Banning is a last resort. I´ve only done it one other time. I feel this incident in question went way above and beyond the swearing issue. It was part of it but not all of it.

couple of points here. I want everyone one to know that no involved it that topic whined to me. Someone who saw it brought it to my attention. I was totaly shocked that our forum had degraded to what was in the whole thread.
I hope your not comparing SLAPYO or me to dictators? If you were just reffering to the way some other boards are run I totaly agree with you. The hard part is finding a balance between giving the freedom to let the board develop and keeping it to where the majority of people can and want to come back.

I agree with you for the most part. Most people should be old enough to handle cussing. I for one want this site to be available to kids that want to get involved with cars. I´d like them to be able to learn how to do it responsible. I guess in the end thats what I really want this site to be. A place for the car lover to get together and talk about cars. That will involve cussing etc but it can still be kept to a mostly respectfull conversation.

I think most of what I´ve said above fits here as well. You call it kiddish. I consider asking people to keep cussing to a minimum is the way to keep this a respectfull and usefull resource.

I´m glad you did. The only one who has been against this so far has been the guy that got banned.
I totaly agree that this site depends on you all for its forum content. I hope this doesn´t chase anyone away. However SLAPYO and I are responsible for it. We want it to be a quality site. Over the history if our site(s) we have kept it as open as we can. Only after our limits are tested to the max have we imposed some sort of restriction. This was only done as a way to keep this site as good as we can. It has nothing to do with being Whiney or PC. I think some swearing can help get the point accross (As I demonstrated above hehe), however, I do feel it takes away from the site when it gets out of hand.
P.S. People have mentioned the freedom of speech several times over this deal. I want to point out that the 1st amendment covers the goverment imposing restrictions on you. Kind of like that idiot Tim Robins complaining about sensorship while on national TV.. *L* I mention this only because I want people to learn from this site even if it is just a little civics... and I don´t mean the Honda version!
If anyone else has a descenting oppinion please let us know. We do want input on the site. Nothing drives us crazier than learning people didn´t like a change we made 6 months after we did it.

now, as for everything you said. great, good for you. that´s it. i have always said that you guys have made the site, egtdude and i provide a place for you guys, but you are the ones that make it what it is and we have ALWAYS thanked you for that.
we are not holding any of you here. we would love more people to show up. i wouldn´t even mind having to fork over more money to get more bandwidth and webhosting if we had to because we had more traffic. but if you or any other wanna leave, go ahead, we don´t care. it´s not like we will feel cheated or anything else. sure it would suck to see you go since thats the opposite of what we want. but whatever, thats your choice.
the rules were put into place because we saw excessive use of language and threats. i´m not gonna say that i don´t cuss, i do. but the forum becomes lame when that´s all you read is cuss words. plus the fact that i have had many newspapers interview me about the site. i don´t want people showing up to the site and going "wow, lots of cussing, what a quality site." you guys have no clue how many emails i recieve daily asking about tech questions on their cars. and i try to answer them if i can, but i always point them to the forum. i have people ranging in age from teens to older folks just lookin for some help fixin their cars. i know the older folks probably don´t appreciate the cussing flying around here like it was some pirate ship.

you can shame on us however or whenever you want. we don´t make these rules because we saw another site out there do it, or because every other site is doing it. we did it cause we felt it was necessary. these are the only 2 basic rules the site has, beyond using common sense.
the bottom line is, if you don´t like it then don´t come here. cause i could care less. seriously. you guys have no clue how much time, effort, and money is dumped into this site. we don´t mind doing it because we like it, and we like seeing the site be used. the more people the better.
i´ll tell you right now, we would have implemented this rule along time ago if the cussing in the posts was as bad as it has gotten. i for one don´t want the cussing to be a major part of the site and i know egtdude doesn´t either. there is alot more than cussing that makes a site full of content. if you wanna cuss, why don´t you go outside and scream or chat to your buddies on IM. just don´t do it in here. if the cussing is what is attracting people then i definitly don´t want it happening because then that is all there is going to be. i don´t want those kind of people here.
i don´t see why some people are having such a cow over 2 simple rules. i don´t care though, thats the rules of the site, like it or not. i have said that i don´t care alot through out this post, because i don´t. i do care about the site, and i do care that people use it and want to use it. but i don´t care about people who complain about rules that are put in place. as soon as any of you wanna start footing the bill and maintaining the site then you can make your own rules, until then follow the rules. it´s really not that hard.
i do want to apologize for those people who hate to see this bickering, it´s dumb. but this has happened before and i can tell you right now it will happen in the future, it´s only a matter of time. i started this site off with another guy when it was only 8 people and we had to manually update the pages. so we have grown from 8 people to 1100. i don´t think that putting this rule in will push everyone away. sure some, that´s fine. but since 98 when i started this the site has done nothing but grow. so please, don´t think that you really have any affect on this site, you are just one person.

Thanks for pointin me out like i´m the ass, that was my entire point, to make me look bad. I see its no possible to have an opinion about this site and have it taken seriously, its just not possible. I just never wanna hear u say u need an opinion about it, because i could tell u a lot.... a lot of things that a ton of ppl have asked about that havent had shit done about them. I remember like 2 months ago ppl were asking about having like a tutorial link on the side w/ ppl´s input on how do do things, like swap transmission, get to the fuel tank quicker, cleaning the lights on our cars, stuff like that. slapyo, thanks for makin that point across to me. I totally think i got it without the help of your sarcastic boss attitude. I dont think you got my point...why couldnt u have made a decent attempt to discuss w/ me. From the start of ur post all u did was call me out. Incase u didnt realize, it was not in reference to you, it was to everyone else. When ppl dont speak up and just agree and go along, its gay someone needs to say stuff eva now and then, and when one person does, they get scorned...thats the idea of group think...
you also go into sayin i wanna leave? i dont recal saying that....just said basically try hard to come up with other ways to fix the forums instead of ruining them w/ rules because at the time, i was under the impression u were outlawing cusswords completely.
I´m not even gonna start with the rest of your post because frankly, after reading half of it, it made me sick. I just love how u apologize to everyone out there and act like i´m bickering. Thanks for pointin me out like i´m the ass, that was my entire point, to make me look bad. I see its no possible to have an opinion about this site and have it taken seriously, its just not possible. I just never wanna hear u say u need an opinion about it, because i could tell u a lot.... a lot of things that a ton of ppl have asked about that havent had shit done about them. I remember like 2 months ago ppl were asking about having like a tutorial link on the side w/ ppl´s input on how do do things, like swap transmission, get to the fuel tank quicker, cleaning the lights on our cars, stuff like that. i wasn´t singling you out, but it was your post that did make me type up my post. it probably sounded like that. but ur not the only one that has "questioned" the rules. i wasn´t trying to apologize to people to make u look like an ass, i did it because of this whole thread that shouldn´t even have been made in the first place. you took my entire post as a response directly at you....not all of it was directly at you.
that is fine if you wanna call me a dictator, because that´s what this site and every other site really does come down to. sure we try and add in and help out with as much as we can because we don´t mind, but we do make the final decisions here.
as for what we need .... yeah i do want to know. why don´t you PM me the list, i don´t care how long it is but i´ll read it, and depending what is on the list i´ll see what egtdude and i can do. some things, alot of things, may get blown by, but between a job and school i don´t have much time left to anything else. and while feoa is important to me, sometimes i have other things i need to do and the post goes right by. and i know that egtdude has other personal related happenings, that being that he is getting married and moved into a house. i don´t read every post, if i did i would be on here all day long. but there is a link to the left that has some how-tos in it. its called topics. and there is no need to surf through the forum unless you want to. also, i have asked MANY times in the forum for people to email me how-tos and i might get 1 or 2 and as soon as we, one of us posts em.
i´ve always said that if you have a question about something we´ve done we can discuss it, thats fine. but when you slam the site by saying its just jumping into line behind everyone else, or that if we don´t allow cussing it will be the 2 moderators talking to each other, crap like that .... that´s not cool. you totally ignored the whole reason we wanted the rule in the first place by saying that a board with cussing would attract younger kids. no, we don´t want people who swear up and down the block making posts on here, so i hope that we don´t get people like that.
the part about me not understaning why people are having problems with the rules, i mean come on now. this rule shouldn´t even be in place now should it. maybe you can see where we are coming from, having to put in a rule that seems so stupid because people should know better. and then to hear people complain or question why that they can´t cuss or threaten people.
so take my post for whatever it´s worth to you. but do PM me or even email me a list of items you want or that you have seen other people want and we´ll go over it. if you don´t wanna send it to me, send it to egtdude instead. but atleast send it to one of us if not both.

I just want to clearify a few things.
First THANK YOU to the paying members who support us. Also THANK YOU to anyone who has bought t-shirt etc and supported us that way. You guys help out with the cash end of it big time. You guys saved the site last time we ran out of funds. We are much better off now but that doesn´t mean we don´t appreciate it.
Second: we really do want input on this site. We try to do as much as we can but we have other lives too. So coming up with tech articles isn´t always that easy. With my new business I hope to be able to do a bunch more for you guys. If you have suggestions or want to help us write up an article I´m all for it. What is really annoying is making changes we see as good... then 6 months later somone mentions they don´t like it and all of the suddon there are 50 other people that agree. If you have a suggestion please let us know. But do understand it may not be something we can do quickly.
Third: Like SLAPYO said we do obviously want to see this site grow. We do want input on it. We can´t make everyone happy though. Some people don´t like this site. Some will want to leave. We can´t control that. We darn sure are not going to jump through hoops and put on a show just to keep everyone. If you feel you´d rather spend your time and money on another site thats cool. We do understand there are lots of ways to spend your free time and cash.
Fourth: again we just want to keep the cussing down. We just don´t want this to turn into a high-school (NO this does not mean we don´t want highschoolers here!!!) shouting match.
and last... damnit don´t everyone forget about escortgt.com... I´m still pissed someone snagged my domain from me when I was low on cash. I don´t remember but I thing egt.com was around just before FEOA. however it was my personal site and no one really went to it except for a few from the EGT yahoogroup. I bet not meny of you remember the original Phatt.com site that was handed over to Zeemax... who handed it over to me a couple years ago. which is when egt.com took off. Then Donnie and I though it would be cool to merge and build an even bigger site. Which we did. I still see a lot of potential for it though!
