My bro-in-law just picked up a 89 Escort 2dr ummm pony? for $200, and there are some things he needs like a driverside taillight, driver seat and new dashboard.

Does anyone know where to get these things other than a junkyard?

And what years are things swapable with an 89?

Any aftermarket stuff?

Thanks, Mike

The two questions I have for you to tell if it's a pony or not is does it have an AC system and does it have PS (Power Steering)? If it doesn't have either, it's a Pony... if it has at least power steering, it's an LX.

~Ford might have some things, but a junkyard is the best bet.

~88.5-90 are all the same generation. I'm thinking even 84-87 stuff
would fit.

~Not a whole lot out there for 25 year old cars like these, especially since they're considered cheap dime-a-dozen grocery getter beaters. Build a 1.9L GT HO engine and stuff it in, 18 hp and some odd torque right there. You can even get a turbo manifold off an 84 Escort turbo and stuff an IHI RB5 series turbo under the hood.

Just find a nice U-pull-it junkyard someplace and get everything you need there. The U-pull-it type places usually sell their parts much cheaper than just about anyplace anyway. Or just buy another Escort just like your to use for parts.

James... I don't know what the car even looks like on the inside cause it's my bro-in-laws and I never got to look at it yet, but I know that it says Pony on the side behind the door. Thats why I think its a pony. But who knows someone could've put a sticker there.

:withstupid: It's a pony if there's a sticker on it. :p

I'd say run with that then...thats the lightest Escort you could possibly ever get.

Good Luck with the dash. I could never find one that wasn't all cracked and focked. I suggest buying a dash cap and calling it a day if he doesn't intend on keeping the car for long. 91-96 model escorts, particularly the GT model, are more worth time. I had an 89 and it looked better just by adding the GT rims, front air dam, new paint on the bumpers and side mouldings. There isn't too much you can do at this point that is gonna exactly raise the value of that car. but Good Luck with it, Pony is a lightweight car
