My 3rd gen originally came with the single overhead light with no map lights. I had grabbed this unit from the junk yard. I can't remember if I got it from a 2nd or 3rd gen off hand.

I know, I was probably along with you when you got it :)

I don't remember what it came from, I was just noting the difference between it and the one I have for in my car.

was the main light bulb 31mm overall length? because mine is longer in the 3rd gen housing.

Actually, I am pretty sure you were with me. I had thought I pulled it from a 3rd gen, but it's possible that I may have gotten it out of a 2nd gen. Both mount and wire up the same.

mine are both 31mm. The standard overhead light housing has a longer bulb. I actually have a longer LED bulb that I had bought for another project. If you want to swing by some time, we can see if it fits in your housing.

He wont be home for a little while yet, so you have time. Hopefully sometime next week or the week after.

Unless you meant visit at the hospital... then just give a call some night, and see if we are over there. We are usually there daily.

    WARNING-THIS MOD ATTRACTS CRACK HEADS!!

I just did this mod yesterday. Only takes 5-10mins. I bought the 16 led tho ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0727857264 ). Removed the metal heat shield thingy. Had to push the metal contact clips to the max to fit that sob in there. Waited till 10pm...hit the switch and felt like the police had the high beam on me! I couldn't believe the difference. What sucks is that 20s after i turned em on, a crack head saw me right away and asked me for a ride to 4th and Burleigh st.

You may have the 194 style LED bulb rather than the 168. If you have a flat style prong on the stock map lights, then you need the 194 bulbs.

The first thing I usually do to any daily drive I own is replace interior lights with LED bulbs. My 87 Escort has LED map/interior lights which are fantastic, and I also have an LED license plate light. I think the turn signals in the rear will be the next to be switched to LEDs. With only 2 interior lights up front, LEDs make a world of a difference when the door is opened when its dark.

LED dash bulbs are great. You can get 10 colored LED bulbs off ebay for less than 2 incandescent bulbs at wal-mart. Unsure local laws, but plate lights are nice. If you do the turn signals, you will need a resistor or "electronic" flasher so they don't blink too fast.

Removing lens cover to put in l.e.d.'s?

I tried to remove the lens cover of my dome light, but it didn't want to pry off. I didn't want to force it and break it.
It's on a '97 w/o map lights. It just didn't feel like it wanted to pop off.
Pry harder? Is there a screwdriver slot I didn't see?
    Suggestions?

    Thanks.
(This ain't my first dome light, in case you're wondering)

Buy whatever color LEDs you want. Dismantle your cluster. Use carb cleaner or nail polish remover to remove the green. Reassemble. Call it good.
