Hi all. Posted a new article in the maintenance/upkeep section on how to backflush and fill the cooling system. Article was written with the 2nd Gen. Escort GT in mind, but pertains to all cars. Pictures are posted as well. Thanks!

I'll be changing the thermostat soon as well, so I might get pics and write that up if needed. I think theres a how to on that at the ERDT site, but not sure how complete it is. Anyone want a how to on anything in particular for the 2nd Gen. GT???

Yeah I want to know how to change out the head. I think I'm going to get some corksport cams and put them in my spare head and then throw it in my GT to see if that helps the slight stumbling problem. if not then I think it might be the PS that's robbing the engine.....i dunno

anyway, a how to on that would rock :p

Well, thats a little more than routine, but I guess its a good request. Not sure if I have the money to just pull the head for no reason, but if I need to get in there in the near future I'll draw it up. :D Sounds like your the man to do the head change write up!

I'll try to write up anything I do to the car if I think it will help someone else. I was getting mail from the Escort GT mail list on day 1 when there WASN'T such a thing as a how to. All of the knowledge we have now came from other EGT owners who werent afraid to get their hands dirty and experiment a little bit. All of it.

Hey dirtyjim, nice how to. One thing I would really like to see is a how to on how to change the transmission fluid. I have a chilton but it isn't very descriptive for someone like me.

Have you ever changed it? Also, I was considering going to atf syntec. What do you think?

Autotrans?? I dont see too many Automatic Escort GTs, but I wouldnt think it would be a difficult task. I can check into that. I would, however, like to change the stuff in the manual trans. It hasnt been done that I know of in my car. Ill check on that too.

As far as actually changing the fluid...its fairly simple. If you jack your car up and look on the bottom of your tranny, you will see a drain plug..remove the plug to drain the fluid...Now putting the fuid back in is another story...as for myself, the only time I have changed the fluid was when doing a clutch replacement..so once I got everything back in place, I removed the vehicle speed sensor which sits at the rear of the tranny"where your speedo cable connects", from there, just get a funnel and pour in the required amount of fluid which is usually around 2-7/8 quarts.."I read that in the book, hehehe"..then just replace your sensor..its not a hard job to do, but to get the sensor out is kinda tricky at first...hope this helps and if anyone knows and easier way of replacing the fluid other than going through the speedsensor, PLEASE let me know...lol, I hate that....lol :?
