Hey, I don't own an escort right now or even my own car for that matter. I recently sent a 99 saturn with a bunch of bolt ons off to the junkyard but have been doing some research on a new car. I want something economical, quick, and somewhat reliable. The 2nd gen escort gt looks promising with the mazda 1.8 in it. I know there is a turbo version of this motor, but I had trouble finding a manifold for it, and was wondering what the limitations are as far as stock internals, how the computer reacts to boost, and that sort of thing. I was looking at build a nitrous sw2 saturn but I kinda want to try something different. Just wondering what you guys reccomend as far as these ford powerplants. Thanks, sorry if these is noobish, but I'm new to the fwd ford world.

Well, the bp 1.8L is not a ford powerplant, it's all mazda. And from what I've read, the stock internals can handle up to 500hp. But I could just be a bit too drunk. I love my 91EGT, it's quick, and I get 30-35mpg with it.

www.corksport.com sells a manifold for it. It will only except the vj10/20 turbo though

well yeah, im somewhat familiar with probe/626/mx6 klde and the j spec high comp cousin the klze and how these 1.8s have the bp and bpt.

Basically my goals for my next car are a something I can DD in the low 14 second 1/4 mile range and still get over 30mpg. I guess I'm wondering what you guys reccomend for my goals, and what motors are best for boost, nitrous, N/A and all that.
