Hey guys, just returned from a 5 hour drive being the happyist Driver ever.. today.. i purchased a 93 Escort GT, 5spd, Red, 171000 km, for $4995 CAN with 1 year warrenty on a bunch of stuff with a zero deductable.. im soo happy, it has a lot of little problems but its gonna be fun fixing.. heres my list of problems, there pretty mild

Little spots of rust
missing panel in trunk
crack in windshield
really wabbly shifter
Purple tint is peeling
Burn holes in back seats
Missing clutch pedal rubber
seatbelt motors broken
rear view mirror missing
rattling in seatbelt panel thing

Those are all the things i told the guy sellin the car and i knocked $1000 off and got a free 1 year warrenty on like 3/4 of the car and zero deductible from lubrico.com..... if anyone has advice on how to fixed some of this stuff like the seatbelt motors, lemme know.. im soo happy :-D im still with u all :) didnt sell out :)

Congrats nuke...you got a few of the same problems I do. Red. the color of the motor-gods! hehe
5 speed...the transmission of people that like full control over the engine.

Little spots of rust...BIG spots actually.
missing panel in trunk...still got mine.
crack in windshield...I got little divots in mine, drivers side. reflects the sun on bright days. hurts eyes!!
really wabbly shifter...yep yep. stupid assembly
Purple tint is peeling...my tint is phat....they did a good job on it.
Burn holes in back seats...got one on my drivers seat (not from me)
Missing clutch pedal rubber...check! must be a common scort problem
seatbelt motors broken...mine isn´t, which side, your drivers or passenger, nuke?
rear view mirror missing...still got mine.
rattling in seatbelt panel thing...I think that might be where my rattling is coming from...SOMETHING is rattling over there...maybe i´ll look at it now.

welcome to the world of the manual transmission, nuke! congrats!

hey james how much is it to do a tint job? Can you do it yourself? What are the tinting laws and regulations?

Angel eyes... how sweet is that?

I dunno how much it was, when I bought the car it was already tinted. You can do it yourself but I would think you´d have to take the windows out of the car to do it best...in my city I believe it´s no more than 35% tint on the side windows and like 10% on front/rear windows. Yet all the cop cars in my city are tinted like crazy...

The loose shifter is easy to fix as long as you have a lot of liquid wrench, it took me 4 hours to loosen up that damn bolt, but once that bolt is loose just tighten it back up and everything is fine. The bolt i am talking about is the one that connects the shift control rod to the shift lever. And my seat belts didnt work when i got my car either and that is because the box that controls them was taken out, it is located under the drivers seat. And if you need pics when you tighten the shifter I can scan some out of my shop manual.

well when you ARE the law...
i´ve heard many horror stories from ppl trying to tint by themselves...get it professionally done, it´s really not expensive from what i´ve heard, it´s really just labour, and it doesn´t take long. don´t goto a dealer though, try a local window repair place, they should be able to do it low cost.

Nuke - i have my old rubber pads from my gas and clutch since i replaced them with aftermarket. they´re gettin old, slightly worn, but still fit and work fine. how bout a trade? your clear corners, my old crusty worn out rubber pedal cover  ;-) :-]
next time ya come into town gimme a holla´ and i´ll get you the cover if you don´t find one by then :-D

i´m probably gunna goto Speedy on albert st when i gots the $$$ (gunna pay off my car before anything else major, though this wouldn´t be too major). they were also the best place for fixin the window cracks/divots i had. i think it was $55 to fix 5 of them, best price around.

at the ice rally i went to yesterday there was a near stock (at least stock exterior) audi 1.8T quattro blue with mirror-like tinting. WOW it looked niiiice, but probably costs a lot more than a good black which is what i want

well me and nuke worked on his car today for a long time, and we achieved installing the clear corners, figuring out why the auto seatbelts didn´t work, attampted to install his speakers and subs, but soon realized it was gonna be a bitch. I didn´t have a clue what the hell the guy who owned it before him was thinking, but dam he must have been dumb. Anyone know of a cheap way to get rid of rust? ;-)

Wow you damn near described the problems that my car had when I got it, everything except the pedals, and i couldnt believe that some a-hole decided to use a sawzaw to cut 6x8´s in the front doors and he did a shitty job to.

wow that skared the flying bajesus outta me... hooking up my fuse for my subs, i decided not to have them plugged in, just attatched to the battery so i wouldnt have to do that later, so i took them apart at the fuse, so the cord was about 1 foot long, i let it go and it had some stiffness, curled over, Right onto the negative battery post, melted the post a little bit and scared the isht outta me :)... fun day ive been having..
