Im thinking about doing an upgrade soon and the main thing that I want to do is get rid of my coaxial kicker speakers in favor of some components. Ive done some research and have narrowed my options down to a select few. What I want to know is out of the ones I have chosen, which would be the best, (best sound quality, loudest, longest lasting, etc...). Feel free to make any suggestions if you think there's a better choice out there that i haven't come across.

I think I'm leaning the most towards the Audiobahns but they are discontinued and the only site that i have found that says they have them is the site mentioned above and im not sure if that site is trustworthy. Has anyone dealt with this site in the past? If so are they safe and reliable? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yea I was liking those the most until I saw the Kickers (the ones at the top) and the audiobahns. Does anyone see a set on that list that I should stay away from?

I think you would be happy with the polks and alpines. The audiobahns would not be my choice.

how the speaker looks doesn't matter if you wont see them

as for the quality i've used the first kickers on your list.
they didnt last 6 months, and i dont play my music much above 8/35 on my HU

the polk momo's are what i have but i went for the coaxial to save space
pretty good, but a 6.5 has no bass for hip-hop, techno, or linkin park

the rockford's are your best bet, my friend has the same system and uses it for outdoor DJing
loud as h31l and has more bass than a straight pipe mustang
and he never added subs

other people will say differently but any system can be tuned to sound better, you just need good quality equipment


companies to look into,
Rockford Fosgate, Polk Audio, Polk Momo, Pioneer(high end), Memphis,
JBL, Clarion(good quality, no bass), MTX subs

most all thos components are going to give you mountaing issues due to magnet depth. i vote you run with the polk/momo's or the alpines.

if your looking to get a bit more response out of them and correct staging instead of just claiming you have components i can build you a nice set of door pods. i suggest looking at my myspace for photo's of my work. along with most everyone here should be able to vouge for me.

Thanks for the offer man, but when I do go ahead and get them me and my cousin are going to do some fiberglass work. Ive never done it before but he has so we are gonna tackle it together. I'm not sure if I'm gonna do door pods or kick panels. Plus we are gonna do something nice in the trunk for my kenwoods, (they are in a store bought box that i got off a friend). But anyways i think im going to go with the rockfords or the alpines, i guess it will depend on how long I can stand to wait for them and how much money i have when i break down.

A shallow mount Polk momo will work well

Yea I saw that thread he posted and his stuff is sick. I just want to get in some experience with custom fiberglass and all that good stuff, hence why i don't want him to make me anything. After spending lots and lots of time on this site reading all sorts of different posts, I realized that he is one of the guys on here that I should listen too. BTW I just wana thank you guys for the input and suggestions, and when I finally get my project underway I will be sure to post some pics. Thanks again.

One more quick question, what do you think of this amp paired with either the rockfords (100 watts rms) or the alpine type r's (110 watts rms)? I will be running two sets of which ever speakers i decide to get.

two 2channel amps would be better then that one 4 channel. one for the components and one for the sub(s).

Yea but i plan on running front and rear components, plus my subs. I already have an amp for the subs, and i figured on a decent 4 channel to power the components.

rear fill is a waste of money. the only reason i have rear fill in my wifes car is because of the kids. i can fade to the rear and they can listen while the front is dead. other then that i don't tell any of my customers to buy rear fill. buy better for the front stage and even if you have people in the back they will hear it.

That makes sense but I've never not had rear speakers, I dont know if it would sound right to me. I guess i could just get fronts and if I feel I need to get rears i can just get them.

Can u suggest some component sets with a max price of $400 or $450? I've been looking at some but as far as the specs go i don't see anything better about the more expensive speakers so im kinda lost as too what would be better to get. Just so you know im looking for something that will be crazy loud.

Have you tried crutchfield?

If you put in what you want look for the speakers w/5 stars
Then compare them and check which ones have the highest db rating

You can buy $1000 components, but if you are listening to MP3's you probably are already missing anything that expensive speakers would have brought out that cheaper ones wont.

Add to that the fact that escorts have lots of road noise, and I dont see the reason to spend more than 200, if that much, on components.

As for the mounting depth, I just mounted mine on the door cards and it works awesome. Just cut out the plastic grille area and amount it right onto there.
