Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1998 ZX2 that I race as a sport compact on a dirt track. I race against mostly ecotech engines so I'm looking to see if there are any inexpensive ways to get more HP to keep up with them.

    Thanks

Not sure what all you can and can't do to the car. but DIY headers would be a quick pick up. I believe you can still get cams for the ztech too.

Depending on what your sanctioning bodies rules are there isn't really much you can do aside from reworking the head and bigger cams. 4/2/1 Header, flashed ECU and CAI will help but there isn't really much more you can squeeze out of the zetec N/A.

Turbo seems the way to go if you want to pick up any real HP but then you're going to run into tranny reliability issues if you go beyond 300hp.

So to answer your question. Inexpensive HP gain? No....

Don't forget an underdrive pulley.... I believe it the most cost effective way to free up some power.. Maybe more effective is just remove all the accessories and underdrive just the alternator.

I was going to recommend a under underdrive pulley too but figured all the accessories were removed.

If you're going to do that you might as well remove the battery as that will improve your power to weight ratio more than decreasing parasitic drag on the motor. Since the OP is racing the car he can connect the battery for start up and remove it after the alternator takes over.

Keman intake mod would be another cheap power adder. I'd wrap the intake tube with insulation to keep the air charge cool.

Keman Intake mod is cheap too. You may also want to wrap the intake tube with insulatoion to keep the intake charge temp down.

Late model zx2 injectors may help too.... 4 hole instead on single pintle.

More air velocity through the intake would have more of an effect on power than that other stuff but good supporting mods.
