I need to find out the tranny code and what other possible vehicles I might find the 5spd man GT tranny in! Also if anyone in the Southern Ontario region might know where I might be able to find one it would be greatly appreciated!

I need this info due to the fact that my diff is apparently pooched and would rather by new axles and tranny and do an R&R because the possibility of a rebuild is way too expensive!

Thanx for any info that everyone might have,

Eric T

You want tranny codes? You can´t handle the tranny codes!!!
Just kidding man... you wanted the 5 sp 2nd gen GT tranny codes? well I found em:-W

The 1992-1997 is called the M5 Model Transmission.
Here´s the different ratio´s for the M5 in all the different cars that use it :)

3.45 1.94 1.28 0.86 0.69 (Tracer 2.5L, Festiva)
3.30 1.83 1.31 1.03 0.79 (Escort/Tracer 1.8L)
3.42 1.70 1.15 0.87 0.73 (Escort/Tracer 1.9L (FS))
3.42 1.84 1.29 0.97 0.73 (Escort/Tracer 1.9L)
3.31 1.83 1.23 0.91 0.72 (Probe/Escort 2.0L, 2.2L Non-Turbo)
3.25 1.71 1.19 0.93 0.71 (Probe 2.2L Turbo)
3.25 1.90 1.32 0.98 0.71 (Probe 3.0L)

I hope this helps ya.
Once again I must thank Brian E. (DemonicEGT) for this information :-]

What do you mean? can you get a 5 speed off a Probe and put it on an escort gt? I´d advice against it. You should use the ratio´s that belong to that engine. unless you have money to mix and match to see if one transmission is actually better for a certain engine.

What do the ratios mean? Are they shifting ratios? Also i was thinking of switching my scort from a auto to a manual so if i got a trans from another scort GT of the same year and all the other stuff i would need to make it functional would it work? Also what is the tranny code for a 91 and what is it called? Thanks :-]

The ratio´s are the input shaft (from the engine) to the lay shaft to the output shaft. On the Escort GT for first gear, 3.30:1...the input shaft turns 1 the layshaft will turn 3.3 times. For every turn the input shaft turns the layshaft will turn 0.79 times (in 5th gear). www.vibratesoftware.com is the site. It only shows the gear ratios from 1992 on up. So I can´t find specs for the 91. sorry man. if You´re gonna get another scort GT w/ a manual you might as well just sell your automatic and drive the manual. it´d be too damned expensive to swap it.

I found a thing on escortracing.com that said how to do it and it didnt seem too expensive or difficult. I would get all of the parts from a junkyard so it wouldnt cost too much for the parts. Besides i love my scort and i dont want to get another GT.

Not all that worried about the gear ratios. Just want to be able to drive my back and forth to work and what not! Don´t really race so I´m not that worried! Besides the 1st and 4th set of ratios are not that far off, but with a better 1st and 5th gear!

Besides, I am going to rebuild my tranny when time and money permit! Maybe throw an LSD into it just for kicks!

Wouldn´t the 91 ratios be the same as the others? After all they have the same engine, and I don´t think they changed anything from 91 to 92. I know that pre-1991 cars would have different trannys but the 91´s should be the same.

not necessarily, Ford is infamous for changing certain parts through the runs of the vehicles, the 92 taillamp bulb connectors are different from the 95s connectors. does that make sense? it didn´t to me when i was switching them around. 91 was the first year for the 2nd generation so Ford and Mazda were probably working out the kinks and very well could have changed the ratio specs between 91 and 92. ;-)
