Okay, I´ve posted on this before and nothing definate came out of it, so I´m gonna try again.

Anyway, my car doesn´t like starting up sometimes, but it will turn over. Someone suggested to me that turning the key to the "on" position (accessories) and let it sit there for a few seconds to let the fuel pressure build up. Well, it seems every time I try that, it starts up fine. Could my problem be the fuel pump? Do they slowly go out or do they go all at once? Help me out here please, I´m afraid the scort might not start up at all before too long.

When you turn the key and it "doesn´t like starting up," does it crank with a few key turns and then finally start on the third or fourth try? Does it start on the first try but just not right away? Is it cranking at all, or do you sometimes get nothing at all when you turn the key?
:-?
I know from experience that Escorts often have ignition switch problems, so if you are intermittently getting nothing I might suspect that´s the problem.
Good luck sorting it out! :p

Well, it always cranks (turns over), but it just won´t start sometimes. It used to be that I´d turn the key, it wouldn´t start, I´d let it sit for two or three seconds, and it would start right up on the secnd try, without fail. Now it might take three or four tries. I´m going to test the fuel pump today and make sure I´ve got a good spark in all four cylindars, hopefully that will narrow it down a bit.

Dunno if the GT and LX have the same fuel pump or not. But I have the same problem with the cranking. It´ll sit there and turn over for about 5-10 seconds before it ignites. The solution I´ve found is to turn key on so dash lights up but don´t crank. Let the beeping stop, turn off, turn back on again. This builds up fuel pressure. After 2 times doing this the car immediately fires up. Other than the startup issue car runs like a champ so I don´t necessarily think that the fuel pump is bad. Not getting any younger for sure, but not showing any signs of failure either that I can notice.

I know exactly what you mean, I´d just like to get it fixed to be on the safe side. I´ll be putting allot of money into the scort pretty soon, and I want to make sure that she´ll last me quite a bit longer before she becomes a parts car.
