So I'm on ym way to work this morning listening to ym CD, and it stops playing. I thought the ced was skipping or reading wrong, so I changed songs. no sound. Double You Tee Eff?

I switch to ipod, no music. Radio, no music.

The deck has power, it's playing the cd/ipod, but no sound is coming out. After work I hop in, and it plays music. A few minutes later it cuts out again. I turn my dekck off then on, it plays for like two seconds, then cuts out.

    So wtf?

It has power, its playing the cd, but NO speakers are making any sound.

please help. Driving with nmo music is the balls.

Hey it sounds like once the outputs are getting warmed up they cut out. Maybe it is time for a new deck .. they aren't worth fixing.

It's a $300 dollar Alpine deck that isn't more than a year old.

double check your wiring, you might have bad stock wires, bad connections, or maybe a bad harness?

What should I be looking for?

Also, each speaker has it's own wiring, so how come they all go out at the same time?

On most HUs, when one speaker has a short to ground, the entire amp shuts down. It can present as an intermittent problem because the wire moves around with bumps and motion, etc, and hits the steel and then comes off. It might not be the problem, but I would check all the speakers anyway, especially the door speakers, Somehow the 2gen Escort has a high incidence of this. Maybe a wire came completely off its terminal and is flying around in the space. When it is working fine, see if you can hear whether it is only 3 speakers, by adjusting the fader and balance to each corner individually.
The other thing is to just examine all the wire connections made behind the HU, seeing that they are all correct and there are no shorts to ground, especially in the speaker wires. Fortify everything in there. Good quality electrical tape is your friend.
If you have an amp, go over all that stuff too.

If it is a defect in the HU, does it not still have any left in the warranty?

^^ I would expect it does. I got it in April '06.

Argh. I gotta take off my door panels. This sucks. I guess I'll do that and see what I can find, then pull the headunit out... Stupid stereo...

    Thanks,

FIxed the problem. Took my door panels off and found a small peice of bare wire that I guess was touching my door. Rewired it all up and it works great now. Woot!

Driving with no music is awful. Especially on long drives!!!
