Hello All,
I recently replaced the power rack and pinion on a 1996 lx and I am experiencing a leak at the upper rigid line that goes from the rack to the pump. I believe that it's the pressure line. I believe that the leak is from the internal oring on the nut where the rigid line attaches to the rack. I did install a new Teflon or nylon washer when I reattached the line.
Does anyone know what the part number is for this roughly 14" rigid metal line? Or know where I might find one? There is only maybe one junk yard locally and they usually only want to sell the entire assembly.

Thanks in advance.

With my 95LX and my other 2nd gen escorts, there are three pressure hoses between the pump and the rack; being the 'from pump' hose, the 'intermediate hose' and the 'to rack' hose. That last hose has a longish metal line on its end, and goes into a fitting on the rack. I think it comes with a rubber "O" ring to seal the fluids, and a white nylon sealing ring on the end that connects to the intermediate hose. At rockauto(dot)com they show small images of each hose. The return line is a just a length of 3/8" rubber line, though they sell a hose made for automatic transmission use, which seems a little tougher.

If you replaced a power steering rack yourself, you are deep into this hobby. I have done that to two of mine and consider it a lot of work.

That is perfect, thank you so much for your reply. I don't know how I missed this as I use rock auto frequently. I think what threw me off was it looks like the combine the to rack and intermediate lines into one part. That is what I am thinking any way as my all metal oem line is only about 14 inches long and rock auto shows 30 inches. Thanks again.

I have attached a photo of the original line and a from pump line I acquired locally that has the correct ends and is about the correct length. The main concern is the tight bend at the male fitting that attaches to the rack. Thoughts?

I suspect the one you show that is 'from the pump' is one that shouldnt be used to connect to the rack
. i have replaced that high pressure hose ;from the pump' several times on my various escorts. They start to leak at the fitting that goes into the pump, and there is not way to fix it. The "O" ring inside is not accessible, so I just put a new one on.
