Yesterday I was driving my car it is a 91 GT 5speed and I was getting on the highway and I had the car in 5th gear and I lowered it to 3 to merge and after I put it into 3rd at about 55 mph I didn´t have 4th 5th 2nd or Reverse. I pulled on the shifter and it rises and falls a little so could my linkage have broken or a bolt fell out or something. I need Help quick please.

So the shifter handle fall down. Is it alot. I had almost the same problem. Mine was because the part of the shift linkage right under the rubber boot had rusted out and the shifter would fall down. I had to lift up on the shifter then shift into gear. Hope that helps. :-o

mine went out recently also...had to lift it just the same....I would put er up on stabds or something like that and give a good inspection

For all that this may happen to. I went to the protege forum and posted the same thing and I got a good amount of feedback and one of the mods said that this had happened to them and he said that the shift linkage needed to be replaced I havent replaced it yet but I got it to go into the other gears now and am still going to replace the linkage just to be safe.
