i´ve got a 93 Escort GT with the 1.8L in it. About 6 months ago i pulled the engine, changed the clutch, and cleaned everthing up a good bit. put it back together, and ran the car for about a week. i went to get emissions, came back parked the car, and when i came back to run to the store, it did not start. it would crank, but not start. i have checked for spark(which there is none) all the way to the coil(not sure how to test the coil though). i have checked for fuel, which is where it gets wierd. the fuel pump comes on when you turn the key, but will not shut off period. you can hear the fuel running through the lines, and back the return line to the tank. when i checked the injectors for fuel, i found they wernt running, checked to see if they were getting power(volt meter indicated they werent). i am not sure what is wrong here, but i have replaced the crank positioning sensor(whole distributor unit), and the ecu, and have had no luck. any sujestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

well if it´s gettin fuel but the injectors weren´t getting power there´s got to be an open in one of the injector wires. there´s no spark in the coil and no power going to the injectors, have you checked your battery and alternator? :-?

ok, think electronic. Since there is no spark goin to coil or injectors, then we know it has to be something to do directly related to the fuel and ignition voltage... Have u checked the fuse panel under the hood? did u check the fuse panel connections to see if a wire came loose. Chances are if ur battery is cranking over ur starter, its not the alternator or the battery. If alternator is bad, u´ll run on battery until it dies, if this isnt the case, then its something to do w/wireing. get an electronic/ vacuum guide and trace the wires. then see if there is a relay that has been tripped. if all else fails, take it to a shop that does free estimates, then find the problem, bring it back home and try to fix it ur self. Lol, i do that every time, brakes, timing, transmission, u name it, i´ve done it. lol. bout time someone rips those shops off.

thanks for the tips, sorry if i didnt make it clear, but the injectors arent firing....now for shits and giggles i did pull and injector, and try it, and it worked fine, so i know they arent bad....i have checked fuses and relays, but have not done wires yet...i think i´ll give that a try...will report back my findings.

Sounds like it might be ECU. Mine was doing pretty much the same thing...excep tthe no 4 fuel injector was stuck open. My ECU was flooded with coolant from a broken heater core.

The easiest way to check a broken coil: Get a new one...if it doesn´t work, return it and just remember...you Never installed it ;-)

Check your ignition module (its small black and has 3 screws. You´ll have to pull the batter to see it on the chassis of the coilpack.

Check the distributer too. Likewise, the ignition system works on a crank angle sensor (actually I think its a cam angle sensor) It may have gone bad.

Fuel injectors need minimum fuel pressure requirements to fire (I think EGT´s are like 38-41psi at 16-18Ohms on the injector.

All in all, for everything to go FUBAR...I think its your ECU.

If it is...let me know, I can sell you one for a 93´ EGT 5speed with A/C (usual GT package). I think the Cover of the ECU says BP08

thanx for the advice, and i think i will check the coil pack, and the pcm....unfortunatley i just bought an ecu and it didnt work, nor did the new deistributor with crank sensor.....but i think i got a bp106 or bp06 ecu and i need a bp05 (thats the gt i belive)....so i am going to try a few more things...but if i dont get her running by the end of march, i think i am just going to sell it, stick with the bike for awhile, and finish saving for either an srt-4, or an evolution.

uhh, fords are very, well i dont know...there out there though....my bro came over today, and was fidling with the scort...well he played with somethings (dunno what) and i cranked the car....well it did its usual turn over, but then it stoped for a seconed like 1 or 2 cylinders fired, and then it went back to just cranking...we checked the exhust tip, and saw that some smoke had come out...pulled a spark plug, and it was wet...actually all 4 were wet....so now, the car is getting fuel, but no spark....and the fuel pump is still contiously running. :-?

Okay, with that being the case and all...i got a few possible solutions for u...

Is ur VAF sensor ok? if they fail, the car wont run....simply put, it might try to start, but when i unplug mine, it starts for a second and dies right away...

number 2 solution. If ur not gettin hardly ne spark...it really does sound like a coil pack or ignition. BUT, just because these things look and test fine doesnt mean its not the problem. Sometimes the ignition module will pass the tests at local stores but they can still be faulty... ALSO, somewhere u might have tripped a wire relay...Its like an onboard fuse thast supposed to reset itself if there is a surge. Or, u could have actuallly fried a wire. I did that once on my other ford car and that was a B*tch to find. check those things and see what happens....

I know this may sound funny, but have you checked your timing belt yet? Mine broke one year on x´mas day and my car would turn over all day long but would not start..I pulled the cover back a little bit and there was nothing on the top of the top pulley..I was pissed to say the least...the car had 147,000 miles on it at the time...
anyway, just a suggestion
gmoney...
GOOD LUCK!

That´s exactly what I was just going to say! Check the timing belt!

blah, work sucks....well there still is no progress...i have checked the timing/timing belt, and they are fine...i think i am going to buy a coil and see what that does, and if it doesnt work, i´ll just return it....anyways this is the last straw, if its not running by this weekend, i´m parting it.
