I need to beat a 99 Mustang!!!
Here is the deal. A couple of local guys including myself have been talking alot of smack over the past few months, all of us have a serious project of some sort on the back burner (347 mustang, LS1 camaro, supercharged this, and supercharged that, etc.). Well the winter beaters all came out recently, and the smack talk continues.
To make a long story short, we've been holding a couple of invite only late night drags on a local highway (steel barriers, no entrances, little to no traffic ever, and 90mph or so top speed). My Tracer is out of commision with "holy pistons" due to a nitrous misshap, so till my SPI is in I've been driving my 90 BMW 325 IC. It's a heavy convertible with a snotty 2.5 straight 6, 5 speed, and a limited slip. So up untill last night, I was king (even had a paper burger king crown with each race logged onto it), I beat all challengers including a 94 probe GT..... and then my friend shows up in his stock 99 V6 5-speed mustang and shat on my parade...
His car has run as fast as 15.3 at around 90mph... so basically I have to get my tracer to run a high 14 / flat 15.
So far it's getting a stock 97 SPI motor and a wet 50 shot.
roughly 160hp in a 2500lb car not sure what that would be good for but I'm guesstimating mid-high 15's in a perfect world. I'm going to stiffen up the motor mounts with polyurethane as per that sticky post to help me put down the power. looking at possibly getting a cold air intake of some sort to free up a little bit there, and possibly cleaning up my stock exhaust manifold with the dremel before reinstalling it. I don't like the idea of putting an exhaust system on it as I'm not tryign to attract any attention by buzzing areound town. The intake may also be temporary if it's too loud.. race only, lol.
Basically looking for any cheap, free suggestions. Any one have any experience with a similar setup? anybody ever clean up the intake manifold? anything to gain there? If I can beat him with the 50shot I'll be happy, if not then I'm just gonna gonna lose it and build a direct port system and run a 75 shot.
but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.
thanks in advance
