I am going to attempt to install cruise control on my 99 LX. It does not have a factory harness, so I need to build my own. I am having some trouble figuring out which wire is which coming down from the switches in the steering wheel. If one of you with factory cruise would be able to snap a picture of the connectors below your dash, that would be awesome. The ones I need are the little 2 wire (red and gray) brown connector, and the 4 wire connector next to it (it has a green/orange, lt blue, black/white, and yellow wire coming into it from the top (steering wheel) end). I need to know mainly the colors of the 4 wires exiting the bottom of this 4 wire connector and how they match up to the 4 wires coming down from the wheel. If one of you could snap a pic, that would be awesome and put me a bit closer to getting this installed.

I installed factory cruse in my 97 and had to make my own harness. I can snap a few pictures tomorrow and tell you which color steering column wire go to which color on the cruse units harness. It took me a whole day to do it. If I had to do it again I would get some multiconductor wire, I ended up hunting for wire from my collection and ended up with all sorts of random pieces in the harness including speaker wire.

I installed factory cruise in my 00 and all the wires i needed were in the harness up til the base of the steering column. I had to run wires from there to the control unit under the hood and from the brake pedal sensor to the unit under the hood. Plus the power wires and stuff.
I'll see if i can find my old notes.

Don't think i have those old notes but i do have some pics on my site including a wiring diagram. The colors relating to the steering column are wrong, but i think the rest of them worked out ok.

The signal wires going to the cruise control unit look like they're:
Light Green / Orage (red maybe?)
Light Blue (not sure if there's a stripe)

It looks like the power supply wire took care of itself.

Greg, I have your website bookmarked. Right now it is listed as an "attack site" by a virus, but I can still see it. I am just unsure though about what wires go to what. I need to figure out where exactly to make all my splice points and which wires are which coming out of the steering wheel harness.

Ok, you wire light green, orange stripe wire to a key on power source and to the yellow wire on the cruse.

The light blue wire goes to the red yellow stripe on the cruse.

The next wire is black, white stripe on one side of the connector and blue on the other. Tap this wire (don't cut it!) and run it to the red blue strip wire on the cruse.
Here are the pictures. The black connector is for the airbag so don't mess with it!

Far out man. Where did you make you connection for your speed sensor signal source and where did you place the ground for the speed control gizmo in the engine bay? Also, do I need to make any connections into the backside of the fuse panel or is everything done below the column at that harness connection?

I got the speed sensor signal from the computer harness, tap the white black stripe wire.

I just grounded the box to one of its mounting screws.

Most of the connection are under the dash but one (green white stripe wire) I wired directly to the battery.

Green with white stripe wire- is that for the brake switch? Also where did you tap in for your 12V key on source for the yellow wire for the cruise unit? Do I have to find one coming out of the fuse panel?

Yes, the green white strip wire is for the brake light switch. I just unplugged the switch, shoved the wire into the connector, and plugged it back in.

I taped the key on from a wire coming from the small second fuse box under the dash.

I have that diagram and while its true there is one part that doesn't make sense. The way its wired the clutch switch won't do anything.

I think I have pretty much all the information I need. Now I just have to find time to get it all together. When I do, I will be sure to take pictures and do a write up. I guess the best way to get the wiring out into the engine bay is through the rubber grommet where the EEC harness goes through the firewall?

I know that. I am talking about the switches normal positions. If you were to press the clutch then the brake the cruse would not deactivate with the way the diagram is setup.

Not to alarm anyone here but that is why it is a diagram to guide you on the process of the work, the user need to understand how it works to properly interpret this.

Exactly. Which is why I had made my original request for wire colors. I don't want to burn my car down wiring something wrong!

Just to put some input to this thread.
I tapped my 12V power supply from the cigarette lighter circuit if i recall correctly (it's a switched 12V source). I grounded to one of the harness grounding points on the fender wall near the servo box.

And yes, i'm aware that my site is listed as an attack site. It was hyjacked, but i fixed it (not till after it nuked my computer though). It was just my main page that was hyjacked.

Good info on the 12V power source. I was afraid I was going to have to go hunting behind the fuse panel somewhere to find what I needed. The cig lighter would be super easy to splice into. Are you planning on doing a write up or should I take a bunch of pix and do one?
