this last summer i have been re-doing 95 escort GT and putting the GTX in, painting it blue, and so on... hope you enjoy!

the car last summer

i sanded off all the purple and got it ready to be painted blue. and getting rid of the rust holes

then gutted it...

then i pulled the engine and sent it to paint

primered!

then i got it back from paint. the blue is a toyota color but i liked it alot. there in engine in it in these pics. the car looked gerat tho.

i painted the engine with truck bed liner and a brush, it took along time but turned out really good.

then i go the GTX engine and ran into problems. the engine was in horrible condition. the was no ECU with the engine like planned.there were NO BOLT in the valve cover holding it on, it looked like the engine was sitting in the ran for along time, the cams were rusted to hell. the enigine block was painted some yellow color. cylinder #2 was filled with antifreeze and the oil was milky and mixed with coolant (blown head gasket). i got the engine from http://www.rimsandthings.com/ for $1400 shipped to my door w/ an ECU. this where i am now... they are going to replace the engine (after hours of arguing with them over the phone) cause it is in no condition to even start. the engine should be here sometine within the next week or so...

tell me what you think... sorry if it too many pics haha

That dosen't help, need pic's of the cold side. Look at the tag plate and see if you can read it. I'm thinking it's a VJ-23, not a VJ-20. And some one drilled and taped the O2 houseing for an EGT guage.

It's not a GTX turbo for sure. See the tag plate hideing behind that line at the top. Get who ever took the pic to see if it says VJ-23 on it. I bet it dose.

yeah it sure as hell is NOT a vj20... it very well may be a gtr bro! which would be AMAZING if the engine was in decent shape but considering its crappy state...

Open the throttle body and look into the intake manifold... now compair: http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22094

ultimately i didnt totally follow with the whole fighting with the seller bit. not sure if you need to send this back or what the deal is. keep this information in mind when making any decisions: the vj23 is overrated... yes its a cool Ball bearing turbo, yes it will push way more boost than the vj20, but its a non rebuildable turbo, meaning when it takes a crap the manifold and ALL the intake, oil and water plumbing you have will either A) have to ALL be removed and changed (cha ching!) or B) you will need to wait for a RARE turbo to pop up somewhere forsale and hope its in decent shape then pay the outrageous price someone wants considering its rarity (possibly cha ching cha ching!).

I personally wouldnt touch the vj23 with a 10' pole, i would rather build up a nice garret setup than deal with a ticking time bomb (vj23) that will cost you a TON of money to get your car back up 1 way or another when it finally goes. my suggestion would be to sell the vj23 if thats what it is and put the money toward a nicer (REBUILDABLE) turbo.

so here is my problem. i dont know what i should do. i really dont know how to hook up a GTR. what esle would need to be done to run this engine? ( i know everything that needes to be done to get a GTX in and running). how much would it be to rebuild it? would i need new cams or are those rusted ones be ok? would i need a stand-alone fuel management? overall would it all be worth it. -or- should i send the engine back and risk possibly gettting a GTX (which is what i paid for in the first place) ond just take the easy route.
thanks for all the help

send it back and get a gtx... the cams are toast rust scaling that bad is irreparable , along with who knows what else.

the vj23 is good and great and all but like i said, between a decent gtx setup and a rusted out pos with known head gasket issues i would take a gtx setup ANY day.

Make sure to document this motor as best you can with photos up the ass... so when they send you another rusted out pile you can start getting other agencies involved such as the bbb and possibly small claims.

who is paying for all this shipping? because for this one transaction they will have had to pay to ship a motor 3 times and i could see a place being as shady enough to ship that pile they would not want to cover it all.

If the head gasket is toast and there is oil and coolant mixing. Plus the condition of the cams (let alone the possibility of scored cylinders)
The turbo probably has had coolant running in the oil feed.

There might be a LOT of damage in that motor that you don't know about yet.

I would really really try to have them just send you another motor and keep the dead GTR.
