April 27th. Now that the Miata is in E stock, no big deal. This season Blue Monday comes sporting 195/55-14 Kuhmo ECSTA V-700s, fresh EBC pads, new brake fluid, powdercoated 14" alloys, KYB AGXs (8 ways), and a Racing Beat chrome type 3 style bar for some panache!

Might as well give me the trophy right now....

Oh, the racing wheels and tires fit the "OTHER" car to compete legally in G stock too! I installed Tokico Illuminas in it.

Should be a fun season! Woohoo!

Well, being one of the "front runners", plus having a mighty damn fine-looking machine (
), tends to get your mug snapped a bit more than the others! I´ll forward pics as I get them.

T-minus 16 hours and counting.

Miata is washed, racing tires are on, numbers, letters, and decals are on. Tank is at 1/2. Car is packed with gear.

Smoke ´em if ya got ´em!

One event up, one solid victory! I won by over .5 second. The second place driver was driving MY car!
The unlucky third place driver was OVER a full second off the pace. Not my best showing overall, but given the hectic pace of being the event chairman, I´m surprised I found time to even compete! Still I finished in the top 10 overall.

A warmer day will yield me better results, too. It was barely 50 degrees (if that) and my race tires were COLD. Having a co-driver helped warm them up and keep them there, but I also need to play with the strut settings a tire pressures a little to get the new setup dialed in.

Oh, and my class competitors must have noticed my margins of victory last season...everyone in the class but one new guy had racing tires mounted!
(I beat that guy by 4 seconds...DOH!) I think everyone in my class sort collectively shat their pants when they saw the race tires on my car too!

An inspiration for us all!

Funny though; I´ve found that reading about good driving doesn´t seem to improve my times much. Racing tires! That´s why I´m still a lousy driver; I don´t have racing tires! And stickers! My car needs lots more stickers to go fast! Step by step, I´m learning.

(Just kidding: This is just my back-asswards way of acknowledging the skill it takes to win at Solo II. Right on!)

Actually, if you look at the results from the link I posted previously, look at the times of the STS class. Those guys all run on street tires. Sure they have more power and tricked out suspensions, but my buddy is still cleaning house in his Mk 1 VW GTI he bought for $400 !
