Wow, I couldn't see the pictures so I looked at the link you posted in the bottom. The people on that board are real ***holes. I mean, Ok you did speed and you crashed, you've learned your lesson. At least, your alright and no one got hurt! I'd still like to see the pictures...

Dang, people on that board are kinda rude eh?

But luckily, you're alive. Creepy that you'd end up inverted next to that cross. Shame about the car, that's one less EGT on the road.

boy... you didn't walk away with one body panel left alone! sucks to lose the car. Chances are insurance will scrap it. If you are really interested in cars you could always find one that doesn't run, buy this one back from the insurance company (usually really cheap) and swap parts. But being your first car you are probably not ready for that yet.

I highly suggest you look into autocrossing once you get another EGT (why would you buy any other car!?!?!). Your family will probably look at you funny but it is an amazing aid in teaching you how to not only not get into these situation but give you a lot better chance of saving it if you do. Most regions will have a training day once a year where an experianced racer will ride along with you and tell you all sorts of cool stuff. It isn't very expensive. 20 bucks for a day of racing is normal.

I agree with egtdude about the autocross.. you'll learn alot about driving fast and driving safe and you'll have lots of competative fun doing it.

I'm glad you're okay. I've never balled up a car, but I came close to losing it many a time when I was younger. Consider yourself lucky. Anyway, good luck finding a new vehicle.. and keep the shiny side up this time :D

my guess is because someone has previously died at that same place doing the same thing he was doing.

congrats man - i did the same thing a few months ago and walked away with no damage to myself either.. except a bruised head where the roof collapsed on me.

and don't drive like a maniac with passengers on board. seriously. :)

Those pictures are just sickening. I can't believe you flipped a fwd car that easily on what looks like dry pavement.

I'm glad you're ok, thats the real important thing...

That car will make an excellent parts car for someones EGT....

Please be careful in the future...flip a Honda or something, not an Escort... :?

Judging by the "memorial" already present in the ground on those pics, Id say that corner has claimed its share of victims already.

yup....he probably went off the road for like a sec or 2 since its a downhill curve...and then hit the ground back a few feet later and then nose dive or something like that....

pretty scary sight...im glad you make it through...but i feel sorry for the car...it looked so damn nice...

I'm still looking for anything resembling downhill in that picture :p (I see that the shoulder slopes off.. I'm just not seeing a 'downhill curve')

You can see in the 3rd pic (the one with the |<<| sign) where his tire marks are and where they dug in and it flipped over just as it was coming to a stop.. a tough break. If it hadn't flipped it might have only gotten a little dent from the power pole. To be turned around in the opposite direction indicates he might have over-corrected for a skid and whipped around... an easy mistake.

Anyway, not bad for 65 or 70.. he got it nearly stopped.

The front grille still looks OK. You should be able to sell it or use it on your next Escort.

Yes, since he only paid $500 for it, should be able to recoup the cost pretty easily by parting it out. How much do EGT engines go for nowadays? How about 4 wheels, assuming they're not bent of course. Other parts too...probably have enough to buy another EGT.

Just one questions... Were you wearing the bottom seatbelt? the reason I ask is because you flipped over.. I never wear it and If i ever crash like you do i'd be doomed...

yea, defintly no elevation changes, consitering this is florida.
i oversterred, couldent correct it ,spun and hit the dirt backwards and sideways.
    the tires dug in.

But i can't part the car out, I wanted to. But I drove 40-50 miles from home (holiday) to homasassa, and its wonderful winding and dirt roads.

the police officer that stopped no more than 5 minutes after the accident called a local tow truck guy, im ending up selling it to him to just cover the cost of towing and storage.
also seeing as how the engine and transmission have 220k, even though they were rigidly maintained and ran strong.

I thought it would be another headache, at a time when i had enough.

    yes

yes, i was wearing the lap belt.
But i would feel comfterable flipping over with out it on.

it was weird when i had to hit the emergency release button on the power seatbelt and then climb out. i never thought i would actualy have to use it.

I just noticed the house in the background, or what seems to be a house.. if I lived there, with that memorial and then whoever else has crashed there, including yourself, definitely would reconsider how safe that house is..LOL... sorry u lost your car, but glad you're ok, i think sometimes it takes one of those type of accidents to get it through ur head that maybe you should go alittle slower on roads you don't know... good luck with getting another one, it looked pretty nice for $500.

Chriskory, first of all, what a shame, the car appeared to be in good shape. You can't find an Escort of that vintage up here in the cold and frozen Northland without significant rust around the rear wheel wells.

If indeed you end up parting out the car I would be interested in all the wheels (my Cloned GT is Caymen Green) also inside front door panels, rear window defroster switch, sun visors and probably other "stuff". If interested pls contact me as I would have the parts shipped to Ft Myers Florida which avoids all the brokerage house fees etc etc when stuff gets shipped across the border. I will in Florida March 14 to March 22nd/04.

You can reach me by e-mail at [email protected].

    BTW where are you located.

    Good luck!!
