...at least that´s what the judges at the 37th Majestics Car Show here in Regina thought. d4 f00s... i was in the show with the QCMA (Queen City Motorsports Association), the local autocrossing club. they classed me as Import. oh well, it was probably my best chance anyways. sw33t show, lotsa oldies/classics/muscle cars. too bad i coudln´t take any pic, my digicamera is horrible without bright sunny day lighting. i did take a pic of my newly painted interior however, page 3 in the showcase, top left. i gotta couple more pics with other angles, i´ll post them when i host them. i think a couple ppl wanted to see

Actually all Mercury Grand Marquis are built in Canada as are all Ford Crown Vic Police vehicles, as are Chrysler minivans as are some GM cars and pickup trucks.

And Bud is brewed under license here in Canada, however Old Milwaukee is imported.

There are tons of cars made in Canada. Windstar, Ford Trucks, CV/GM, Intrepid, Concord, 300M, Some Jeep, i dunno which one, Impala, Monte Carlo, Regal, Century, GM trucks, Tracker, Oddesey, Civic(sorry about that) 1.7 EL, Corrola, Solara, Chrysler minivans, I´m sure I´m forgetting stuff. AFAIK they are all considered American by the EPA(well I´m not sure of the intrepid and its twins because they are stamped here too.
Tons of cars used to be made in Canada. Tempo/Topaz 4dr, Camaro/ Firebird , well I don´t wanna go back to the fifties it´s too hard.
I remember the 92 Crown Vic was not in the Motor Trend Car of the Year contest because it was called an import by the EPA because it was over 50% Canadian or some such stat. Ford did not want it in the Import contest so it went untested.

They make Hondas in the US but they are still concidered Imports. So just because a car is made in Canada doesn´t mean it´s a Canadian car.

And thanks for the info about the the beer. That is interesting.

I heard that ford/GM built plants in Canada because the factory workers up there have better work ethics. That and tax reasons.

Plus they don´t have to provide health care plans in CAN. They may be able to attract a better group of employees while doling out the same $US (I´m not trying to say Canadia is poor, not by any means).

Yeah, good point Pimp. The Honda Accord we drive here in the states isn´t driven anywhere else in the world but North America.. the European Accord is smaller (and is soon to be sold in the US as an Acura). The about 40% of the civics sold in the US were built in Japan, the rest in the US.

DSMs are another good example. 1st-3rd gen Mitsubishi Eclipses are about as American as they can be (except for the turbo motor), yet they´re considered to be an import. They were built and sold in North America only.

Again, same w/ the Tundra pickup.

Does that mean that the Cadillac Catera is an import (Opal Omega)? How about the up and coming GTO (Holden Monaro)? :-]

Just because the part was from mexico doesn´t mean the car was. Or was that not what you meant?

The reason is not worker productivity. Ford´s plant ratings on that stat run the gamut and the country seems to matter little. The main reason is the Cheaper labor. The Cheap Dollar makes it very attractive to set up shop in Canada. The Auto pact of 1965 made it possible for parts to be imported from the US duty free, and the car imported to the US duty free. We do not have better ethics than you, but thanx for the compliment. :-]

Where´d you hear that? Big 3 employees are CAW members, which is part of UAW. CAW negotiators have cosistently garnered better deals than thier American counterparts in both wage increases ant benefits. CAW members have got it made! I belong to the IBEW, and we have a pretty sweet package, and still the CAW has a better one! Plus their hourly wage is only about $5 less than ours and they have an easy job and don´t need any skill.
Not to degrade them or say they arte stupid, just that I had to learn a trade and get a licence to get what I have. They also have way better job security in their agreement than us or the UAW. :-(

I ALWAYS wondered what JDM stood for. DSM is Diamond Star Motors right??? What is with all this JDM DSM crap anyway. We should start refering to our car as FMC Escorts (Ford Motor Company)

Situation:
Hey man my FMC Escort will smoke your JDM Civic any day.

Sport Compact mag headline:
Hot FMC Focus build

Also wondering is there anything different between a Civis that is concidered a JDM and any other Civic, or are they all concidered JDMs???

Getting back to the original post though, Fords are American cars (ADM maybe? ;-) ) So anywhere other than the US they are Imports.

Technically pimp an American Escort will NEVER take on a JDM Civic...unless someone pays the extra amount of dough and imports it to the states. No one from Canada, the US, or even England for that matter will ever have driven a JDM Civic, unless they visit Japan. ;-)

Oh, sorry. I meant to mention that was all speculation. :-| Still, does a health care plan (health insurance, etc) do you any good in Canadia? You know, with the ´socialized´ healthcare?

The import and domestic lines are no longer drawn. We should all just stop thinking in those terms. ;-)
