What was your method for the wet sand and buff? Grit used? etc.
Nice work! Its looking good!!
I used 1200 grit sand paper, then washed it then put the rubbing compound on it and my friend and I buffed it, then we washed it again, then we pit a glaze on it to make it shine. The glaze is almost like wax.
you got rid of too many good parts, if you get in any future fender benders...you must have needed the room
New Bumper at the junkyard
Putting the new bumper on
Looking real nice! Great finds in the yards, I can never come across GTs that have even a good panel on them! Wagon needs MOAR LOW though haha.
I need to do something like that wetsanding stuff you did to mine. Clear is looking pretty rough after the years. I love that red. Real sexy.
Yeah i love my wild strawberry metallic paint, i cant wait till i get my rust and body fixed to get a new coat of paint thrown on and then she will be set, also needs some tints and she will be finished
It's amazing how much the GT bumper can change the personality of the Scorts. Makes me miss mine; put away for winter. Color match to boot, looks real good!
Looks good. Make me want one even more.Considering how sun faded my current LX bumper is it wouldnt be that much of a big deal to just go out and find a nice GT bumper cover and have it painted to match.
if you do try looking for a gt bumper it will be a pain, it took me 2 years to find it and i was lucky it was close to my color. i could get it painted because i work at a body shop but i dont see a point painting it because i want to get the whole car painted in the near future
Why not grab that bp?
Fact that the moldings don't look to match up would deter me. But You are right. I have seen maybe 4 2nd gen GT's in JY's and they are trashed.
Getting the tints done at work
Nice restoration! What happened to the wheels? And you should have grabbed the gt side skirts.
Thanks and the rims are at home clear coat is chipping off so didn't want the salt to make them worse, and I have the side skirts in my garage but may need a little tweaking they seem to be half and inch to short
It has been a really long time since I uploaded photos but there is my most recent picture taken. Poor old girl is sitting in the garage dead, but i now have 2 more escorts i can choose from to drive.
I was also lucky enough to find an Lx-e that had amazingly clean interior in it and i snagged the power door panels
So after sitting in my garage for about a year, i finally figured out that my problem was not my transmission, it was my speed sensor. So now i am finally driving it around as a daily. Finally got my 94-96 EGT rims on and a few more things. More pictures coming soon.
Good write up. I really like the (stock?) rims in the first picture in post #36.
