Does anyone know if other Ford MAFs will work in a 91-95 LX?

For instance I spotted this on eBay.

It's a 70mm for an OBDI mustang that looks like it would flow better than the 93-96 LX scort MAFs:

(you should check out sleeperscort's how-to if you haven't already)

This one, from an OBDII Explorer, looks like it would bolt right up, but wouldn't help me out much w/ the OBDII interface on it. Maybe I could swap out the interface like sleeperscort did with the OBDII LX sensor he got.

:? I searched the forums for an answer to this and couldn't find anything.

I believe the sensors give the same readings no matter if they are OBD-I or OBD-II, the mani diif between the two is how the computer stores and manipulates the readings. If the connectors are the same it just might work. There should be 4 prongs in the connector, two are for the heated wire element, and two are for the sensor element if I remember correctly. The only thing you have to be sure of is that the right input and output wires connect to the right wires in your harness. In my opinion though the Mustang one would be your best bet. Go to just about any Mustang Forum, and you will be able to find article about midifying the MAF for even greater air flow by some how getting rid of the bar that runs through the middle, or modifying it some how.

I've read over and over that modifying and swapping MAFs isn't a good idea because different computers are calibrated for different MAFs. I think that anything is better than the MAF I have right now, and I can always use the "POTs" mod to calibrate it.

(the "POTs" mod is the use of potentiometers to adjust the signal the ECU receives)

I actually tried a mustang MAF on my car. It's soooo big that the poor scort couldn't suck enough air to keep it idling. I could keep it running if it was revved up but it wouldn't idle for more than 5 seconds or so. I still have the thing if you wanna try it out for some reason. It's the huge one in the pic below, and the other is a MAF from a '94 escort.

Mine was built in 8/92 which was probably very shortly after the beginning of the '93 model year. Hard to believe she's 11 this month 8O

You can find the manufacture date on the decal attached to the back of the driver's door threshold.
