Can I do anything to my 1.9 sefi to make more power and still look stock on the outside? I was thinking of porting the head and maybe running bigger injectors. But I dont know what will work without changing the ECU.

i used to run 1 of them a couple of years ago. there is a 89 escourt with a H.O. engine in them and come stopck with headerpipe and u can take the belts off because that motor has a internal water pump that seemed to help out alot

I think I will get one of those pulleys the go in place of the ac pump and eliminate that and maybe the ps pump too. How hard will it be to steer without power steering?

I would suggest shave the head and deck the block, also use the thinnest head gasket you can. This will add compression and retard the cam timing, this will improve top end power. After doing this use premium grade fuel

Cut out the bottom of the air box! It'll act more like a cold air intake! You can get a camshaft from escortfocus.com. (I haven't done this, as I can't afford it, but it should help!)

i ran a modified focus spi throttle body ( a escort spi TB will work just as good ) depending on your year you can upgrade your MAF and air tube for slightly better flow. you can change the ecu to one of a 95 to take better advantage of the larger MAF. if the rules imply the car must remain stock your hands are pretty much tied/ how ever if you have a vac limit of say min 17" you can still get a decent cam ground an still pull the min vac required. OR do an spi swap an put a 1.9L valve cover on it thats a 22hp gain right there.

other than power gain focus on the handling of the car , if your budget allows try an get some KYB GR-2's and some stiff springs .... beware of ground height requirements by your track. . a Escort GT or 2nd gen wagon Rear sway bar will help. a front strut bar will also help alot but if your roll cage is done right you can tie this together ... i recommend a front bar between the bumper

like this ^^^.

although its better to build a tube frame on the front .
hope some of this helps

I am looking into getting a 2.0 spi to swap into it. Hopefully I can get one cheap before next season but if not I would at least like to try the throttle body swap. I heard something about swapping a 3.8 tb onto a 1.9 what would it take to make that work?

I went to a race car swap meet last Sunday. I bought a bunch of stuff for the car. I got seat belts a window net a racing seat a fire suit and one of those neck donut things all for like 75 bucks. I spent 40 on the fire suit alone.

I found out that the catalytic converter was completly clogged so I cut it open and knocked all the guts out of it. The car is way quicker now than it was. If I can get the car to handle good I might be ok with my little 1.9 for a while.
