hey guys i currently got a 93 ford escort lx, im curious if there is any mods i can do to this thatd help it out a lot more power wise. Also i have this problem where im going 85 and the tach is at 6500, i know this cant be normal, a kid at school said the govenor might be bad or not there at all, he also told me if i took it off itd increase my hp. what i wanted to do as far as intakes is run piping up to the grill and get it sitting down there so i could get more forced air in there. if anyone knows where i could get a cool front bumper thatd be nice too, possibly a body kit also, most of them are shit and look like 80-ish. i was also wondering how big of an engine, and what engine i could fit in there for an engine swap if any?

OK, I have 2 LX´s, so let me pass on a little of what I´ve learned so far.
viprez586, if you´re running such high revs at 85mph, your trans is not shifting into overdrive. I´m guessing you must have an automatic, cause if it were stick you´d know it if it were not going into 5th, and there´s no way the engine would be revvin like that. Check your trans fluid level, but what your describing sounds like a serious trans problem to me.
Bodykits for 2ng gen (91-96) scorts are hard to come by, though they have made ´em in the past, so you might find something. You could also go with bumpers and side skirts from a GT. As far as intake, I know WeaponR makes an intake and a cold air ram kit that will work on the 1.9L engine. I have one ready to install on mine as soon as the weather gets warmer. Don´t expect it to make a major difference in HP tho. To get a lot more power, you´d probably have to think about turbocharging, or an engine swap. The 2.0L 130hp Zetec seems like a popular swap, or maybe the 1.8L DOHC from the GT, but any engine swap requires a lot of other mods to make it work, so it´s not a cheap way to go.
A new exhaust will gain you some power too, but I think you´ll want 2 3/4" pipe. Any larger and you´ll lose power due to a lack of back pressure (correct me if I´m wrong.)

The other choice is the pacesetter cat-back system, but some people think it´s junk. I´m about to install it on my scort, so we´ll see.

anyone mention intake yet? custom cone filters are around, or simply a K&N stock air filter replacement (jsut the rectangular one), and cut out the bottom of the air box a bit for more flow. also ditch the air muffling piping or whatever it is below the airbox...just one screw and it´s off easily; after you take off the air box, which is 3 screws to the chassis, 4 screws to the valve head piping / MAF sensor
Well as far as making your Escort a "Speedster" I cant help yah (I gave up on that a loooong time ago)... But..... If it comes down to making it LOOK like one or getting a sound system maybe I can Help yah get some good prices. As for audio just give me some specifics as to what your looking for.... well what i need a low price for right now is lowering springs, i found areospeed ones for 135 and thats the cheapest i could find, also im looking for a kenwood deck, the one that has 67 different colors, i found that for 230, if you kno a place where i can get it for less thatd b nice, also the infinity basslink, found that for 240, if u kno a place where i can get this cheaper itd help out a lot

Well I am a registered member on escortracing.com and the latest news over there is for poneys is. a 1997 Escort engine swap. They fit the second gens. (91-96) you dont need to change your tranny, but from what i have read on this post you might have to. the second gen stock comes with 88 poneys and the 97 comes stock with 110 poneys. all the mods for the second gen will fit on the 97. also at a junkyard the 97 engine with low miles should not cost more than 300$ so do not let those guys talk any higher. Also all the wiring harnesses fit. For body kits i believe the 93 GT skirts look the best on a second gen. For bumbers go to corksport.com go to protege and click on styling and kits. Look for the EVO3. That is one of the hottest bumpers on the market that wil fit a second gen. I cant remeber what else you asked for but i will have to look for i am new to this forum and do not know how to work it yet....lol
