hi all, this is my first post here. i´m just looking for some info on an escort. i´m thinking of getting a GT to replace my ´91 probe LX. i want something with fewer miles and in better condition so i was thinking a ´95 or ´96, possibly a ´94 if i can find one in good shape.

basically my question is what changes were made on what year? i know the 96 has ODBII, but i doubt i´ll get that far with mods to make any difference.

what else is different? is there a significant difference between years? i really like the five spoke swirly wheels but i can seem to figure what cars they come on, same with the grill with the centered ford emblem. is there any difference in reliability from year to year?

i guess that´s all i can think of right now, i´ll be back for more. sorry about the ignorance towards escorts, i´d do a search, but i don´t know what i would search for.

For the 2nd generation Escort GT, 1991 and 1992 had the 3piece chunky spoiler. 1993 and on used the LX spoiler (single pedestal wing). That much seems to be consistent. However, you can find swirly wheels on a variety of years. I´ve found that 1991 and 1992 had the swirly wheel with flat centerpiece. 1993 adopted a revised 5 spoke swirly with exposed lug nuts. 1994 and on used a 7 spoke straight spoke rim. HOWEVER, you can find colored swirlys on newer cars. I once found a purple 96 GT with purple swirlys, further investigation revealed that this car was direct from the factory, never owned, so that surprised me. As for the grille, GT´s have an asymmetrical grille with 8 diagonal openings, whereas LX models use the center-mounted Ford logo. Early LX´s had smaller openings for airflow around the logo, later years, it was enlarged. Hope that helps you.
