well the only fan in my escort that works is the defroster. it doesnt matter if i put it on face or feet, it only comes out from the defroster. i took out the glove compartment to get a better look at the mode selector cam because im pretty sure its that. i found this like plastic pumps i think that have a metal rod going into them. i assume thats what engages the air/heat to come out the floor/face. i turned that air on and push that rod into the pump and it started coming out of the floor so that was a start. i did find another one right above it assuming it was for the face. so do i need to take out the selector cam or what do i do? if i need to take it out, how do i do that. it seems like my hand is to big to fit in there and even reach it.

What year car is this? I would check the selector switch first and make sure I have vacuum at it.

Right, check that vacuum is getting to the selector switch. The 'default' position for the heater is to have air coming out of the defroster. So in the case of no vacuum, thats what you get.
