What's wrong with it :?
It could be a simple fix.

And yes the scort is a relatively despensable car, but there's one thing it does for you that a new car cant. Cheaper insurance

You know I was workin today and I was thinking about what Greg said... ALL cars are dispensible cars. It doesn't matter if it's a 300k ferarri, 20 dollar Escort or a mid car like a Vette...it's still dispensible.

So Greg, stop with the attitude and hand me the keys to your Scort since you hate it so much. :D

that's why you use junkyard parts for your first try..

Big talk for a guy who drives a car that was probably purchased from a bubble-gum machine (Festiva).
I don't act like it's a good car. I'm a sophmore engineer in college... I can't afford anything nicer... yet.

Dumping money into an escort at 100K miles is insanity. Unless it's in really really good condition. And if the parts can be brought over to other cars when the scort croaks.

And yes... james is right. Any car is disposable.

I would go ahead and put in the new engine and transmission if I needed it. I already have a Jasper rebuilt engine that cost about $4000 installed about 2 years ago, and when I need a new transmission, I'll get one of those also. Why? More like why not. My car is otherwise in excellent condition. It's an excellent commuter car (60 miles RT every day) and I have to have a 2DR HB, and they don't make any new 2DR HB's that I like. That plus I keep on getting hit, and I like the fact that I can go to the junkyard and pick up another bumper real cheap. I'd be pissed if I had a good new car and it kept on getting hit like that.

Festiva:

car: 599
misc registration stuff: 50
new tires (including shipping): 165
misc parts for exhaust: 18
paying some ******* to weld crap together: 25
hood latch: 5
misc electrical stuff: 4
inspection: 14

So that's $880.00 total that I've spent on the festiva. For the condition, quality of ride, and incredibly good gas mileage, the value is superb. It also came with a few nice little extras too. Interior is gutted, AC is gone, so a conservative estimate of curb weight is around 1700 pounds. A more realistic guess is probably around 1670. New intake, exhaust, and a few other goodies give it probably around 77hp or so. For 880 it was a great deal... too bad I had to give it to my sister. meh.
