Just an idea I’m throwing around. I plan on using the ZX2 trans, but what about the wiring harness, how hard would that be to swap over?

Any input would be nice!

I'm not sure you can use a ZX2 trans. Everything I've read says that the BP/BPT use a different bellhousing bolt pattern for the CVH/Zetec engines.

and whats wrong with the zetec there is plenty of aftermarket for the zetec and it makes just as much power as the bp. just build your own turbo or buy a turbo kit.

never heard of that before. if it does its by pure chance we are talking a ford bellhousing and a mazda bellhousing. that would be like discovering that a mustang 302 will bolt to a turbo 350 tranny.
The ZX2 uses a Mazda trans (G5M)....

I'd just like to do it purely for uniqueness, but it's looking like more trouble than it's worth.

How strong are the EGT trans? What other trans options do I have.

I wounder if the EGT bellhousing can be swaped to the ZX2 trans?

Edit; scratch that, I just found out that the EGT trans is also a G-series, meaning that I could swap out the gears with ZX2/Escape gears if I'm not mistaking. As sone as I get the funds, this swap is on!

why do you want to swap gears? the gears are exactly the same. the ratios are even the same, except some later zx2's had a .750 fifth instead of .795. thats the only gear i'd advise swapping... no reason to open up the main trans case unless you are rebuilding it. the zx2 shafts wont fit in the EGT case either they are slightly longer so you'd have to press all the gears off the EGT shafts and put the (identical) zx2 gears on.

The reason is because I want a short ratio trans, and plan on using gears from the Ford Escape. I just wanted to know if the gears from the Escape (the same trans as the ZX2) would fit in the EGT trans. Sorry for the confusion

Well it looks like I'll be going through with this swap. I'll ether go with a BPT or a N/A BP and upgrade to turbo later. What exactly will need to be done with the wiring harness? What needs to be cut/spliced, eta?

Nobody knows. It has never been done before so you are on uncharted waters with the wiring. All I know is it's is all different and nothing will plug in. The amount of splicing that will need to be done to keep the ZX2 dash seems mind blowing.

I still don't understand why? Zetec has awesome aftermarket support and almost anything you can do to the BP you can do to the Zetec. Why anybody would go through all that work to loose 0.2L and 3 HP is beyond me.

The Zetec into EGT has been done before, and what I'm doing is basically the reverse of that. If anybody knows of anybody who has done that swap, please chime in.

As for why, like I said, just for uniqueness. My Zetec in the ZX2 is on it's why out anyway (coolant in oil). And the 0.2L and 3 HP loose is pretty insignificant considering it will be boosted.

I have never heard of anybody putting a Zetec into and EGT because its yet again a pointless swap.

However, I have seen people put the Zetec into an LX. That is a completely different ball game wiring wise. Both the 1.9 CVH and Zetec use the same EDIS ignition system and have the same firing order which means the CVH computer will run the Zetec. Lots of stuff on the Zetec and CVH are the same. The Zetec is just about a DOHC version of the CVH so swapping it is just a matter of splicing and extending a few wires under hood and rigging up a CPS if you plan on keeping the 1.9 transmission. There is one guy that has a Zetec swap on his 2nd gen and used the ZX2 wiring. He didn't actually do the swap though, he bought it that way.

The BP is a completely different engine. It doesn't use EDIS, I think the firing order is different, and all the sensors that have to do with the the fuel injection are different as well. Its also a Mazda motor while the Zetec and CVH are Ford designs.

You are gonna need complete wiring diagrams for the EGT and ZX2 to figure out what you need to cut and splice to make it work. Not to mention you will probably need the EGT fuel tank, sending unit/pump, and the filler neck. Then you will have to rewire the TPS once you get a BP-T and have to swap its ECU in.
