Aite...heres the deal...down the road, i wanna get an alarm for my car....and it´s pointless if you don´t have power locks....which i don´t...SO, since i´m such a newbie..i don´t really think that i should do it myself..besides, it looks like way too much work. Whats my options? Will Ford Service shops do it? does anybody know? thanks...and i don´t have enough car buddies for them to know how todo it..or is willing to try....

Best Buy will do each door for $75 plus an alarm. I can imagine how much ford will charge

...best buy? I´m Canadian...don´t think i´ve ever heard of such a place. Do you think there´s a Cdn equivilant? So you´re saying Ford WILL do it...it´s just cost more, right?
It´s not as much work as it seems. All you need to do is wire it up, put actuators in the door frames, and connect them to the rod in there so they can lock and unlock it. I´ve seen the ones on my friend´s car and it doesn´t look too hard to do, but maybe it is :-?
Well..hmmm...im not very knowledgeable on car stuff, nor have i had alot of practice. For example, it took me 2 hours just to install my new deck into my car...and even then i think i did a sh1tty job  . So i dunno bout this mod..sounds difficult...honestly, i'd rather pay abit more for a professional (or somewhat professional) to do it.....does anybody know where i can get it *done*? Like thats common to Canada and the US??
normally ANY place that installs alarms will do it.
I got a quote to put the automatic door locks in and it was like 200 and something. Right now i have the viper car alarm on it and not having power locks suck. My friend gives me crap cause he's got the same alarm on his camaro and he can push the unlock button and it unlocks. But when he gets back i'm gonna give him **** cause i bought a firebird with power windows and t-top.

According to my factory service manual, it was an option in 1995, and presumably also in 1994. If you can get the parts it's most likely plug and play.
I was at a huge junkyard over the weekend (Crazy Ray's in Jessup, MD) and they had tons of Protege's, 626's, and other Mazda's with power door locks that will work for an Escort. Even newer (1997+) Escorts with power door locks but I don't think those are compitable.
It might even just be possible to get 2 whole new doors.. that way you could get power windows and door locks in one shot.. minus the painting the doors are just plug and play like zzyzzx said. Bonus if you can get then in your color. Also that will leave you the old doors to practice on getting custom mirrors to fit :D

Ha ha....easier said than done....i went to a local Junk yard and they had loads of escorts.....and then even got a 2nd Gen GT, but no power locks on any of 'em...the GT looked pretty good...the only thing i kinda wanted from it was the grille, and THAT was gone..what pisses me off more is that it was the *exact* colour as mine....grrrrrrr :x

Correct, but you should have no problem finding an appropriate Mazda Protege, MX-3, 626, etc to get the power door lock actuator. If you don't believe me then remove some from a Mazda and mount it in an Escort at the junk yard. The same exact mounting holes are in the door of the Escort!!! I'm taking about 1991-1996 Escorts. The interior door panel piece with the cutout already in it might be a problem though.

So i'm guessing all u gotta do is take off the door cover, plug in the actuator to the wiring thats already set up (i'm assuming) and hook it up to the rods.....what about the switch? would that be hard? also how would u get both locks on the driver and passenger side to work together? thanks gurus...HAIL GURUS!
The existing Escort setup uses a lock switch on the passenger door which activates a door lock "motor" on the other door(s) via a relay. Relay is located under the dash.

I think you'd really want 2 of these door lock motors and grab the wiring from the door panels and do any rewiring for using a switch under the dash and I'd add the switch on the center console.

Hmmmm....how hard is it to "rewire" it to the centre console. I was thinking of puttin gthe switch right beside the e-brake on the drivers side...very accessible. And about this relay under the dash, is it already there in my car? or do i have to find one and install it? thanks zzyzzx!

PS- For a newbie...how long do you think it'll take for the whole job?

That's where I'd put the switch. Adding it shouldnt be to obad there. As for the relay for the power door locks, you'll have to get one. My car has a blank spot and an empty wiring harness connector where the relay would be.
Go to autoloc.com there 2 door basic kit is 125 bucks...easy install...doesn't get much better than that...
Easy? The Escort's door already have mounting holes for door lock motors, all you gotta do is find some in some Mazda's and it's a bolt on without having to do any drilling or metal fabrication. If you grab the passenger door wiring harness off the donor vehicke then your done with the passenger door. Should be very easy to do the passenger door(s) at least. The problem comes when you want it on the drivers doors because there is no prewiring for that.
i recently purchased power window and lock parts. the power windows work perectly, i had to drill a couple new holes though since it didn't quite line up correclty, i have a 91 egt so they probably changed something. i can't for the life of me figure out how to hook in the power locks though, and no where in this stupid chiltons manual does it have a detailed schematic of how it fits, if anyone's done this mod before please let me know :/
All model years came with the option of power everything. My 91 came with it all except power windows. and yes.....all the plugs and holes are all there for the OE stuff to bolt into.
