Ok guys,
I have an electrical problem that I can't seem to figure out. First, while sitting at a stop light out of no where my speedo needle started bouncing erratically. Then 2 warning lights came on I smelled burnt wires, and then it died. Long story short, Checked fuses all seemed fine except for the fuel pump fuse. Alternator died, but not because of anything other than my car stereos need for power. Replaced the alternator, got a battery because the other one was going out, so now the car runs but I have no turn signals, heater, instruments on dash don't work. I'm not sure what to do to try and find the issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 馃

It might help to know what year your escort is.
I would start with checking the fuses in the fuse box.
It sounds like it might be an ignition switch problem.

Starting with the stereo, then progressing to the inoperative stuff, I would chase the wires until I found where the burned wire smell came from. You may have a (some) wire(s) that are grounded because the insulation has melted/burned off of them.

Fuses are fine, my car is a 2003 escort zx2 . I tested all the electrical parts and besides the things I already listed the electric side mirrors don't work and one side of the hazard lights don't work. The stereo works just fine so the issue has to be behind the dash some where. My next move is to try and find melted or burnt wires, but it doesn't explain why the heater stopped working.

I'd check the smaller ground wires on the negative battery terminal. They are known for causing all sorts of weird issues when they start to go bad.

And the heater could just be a loose connection at the blower motor, they are known for this too.
