Well unfortunatly the ECU in an 89 Escort GT does not support the use of a MAF. If you want to get rid of the VAF and use a MAF instead I would recomend canabilizing the ECU and wire harness from an 80´s Mustang LX 2.3 or T-Bird or Ranger.
the problem with that is the ECU for our cars are VERY specific on ignition and fuel...so if you try to use another ECU it wont work right.
I hate to say it but if you really want to upgrade you really want to go to a MAP like a honda. Then you dont have to have anything on the intake pipe...no temp, no airflow sensor...nothing.
To do this you need a Haltech E6K ECU. They run about 1200 bucks plus sensors.
