91 Escort GT:

When I start of in 1st gear, once the clutch is engaged it lugs like crazy until I either A) push the clutch back in and try again or B) shift to 2nd and it does it in 2nd until 2k RPMs, just not as hard.

I am unable to move in a forward direction, in gears 1 or 2, below say about 10 miles an hour without my car lugging so hard.

I know my clutch is bad but I have never had a problem like this with my clutch. I'm easy on my clutch cause I know I need a replacement.

Any input? I'm stumped. I am thinking maybe the motor mounts are needing replacement? I don't know =/ Thanks for taking a look.

if you let off the gas does it do it as well? my mounts are SHOT so my car rocks if i accelerate in 1st then let off the gas its almost like riding the 8second bull of doom. if thats not the case is there any power loss?

Off the gass rocking, CHECK.

and oddly enough there is a loss of power in normal driving until about 3.75k RPMs

Tune up. You need to probably replace the distributor cap and rotor. Low rpms causing the engine to miss or jolt/rock. Or a air flow meter not plugged in all the way.

I drove it. Holy crap. I have never honked a car with my forehead unintentionally before.

Tried a third gear start and it just sat there revving. And quickly began to smell clutch.

What I'm thinking is the clutch disc is worn unevenly, and with the torque levels in 1st and 2nd gear, and is slipping/gripping.

Might have moisture in the cap also. Check that. Spraying WD-40 in the cap will help that.

I had a crappy coil wire half out of the coil cause this also.

Turned out to be a split intake pipe. I just let him roll out with my old intake pipe that I had already repaired with some gasket maker. he gave me a ring said "it's just like the day I got her, thank you man!"

Split intake pipe, looked like a crevasse. HUGE!! Thank you Silverton for the intake pipe. I squeezed the intake pipe at my grandmas house and the car died. I squeezed it some more and saw what was wrong. I got it straight over to Silverton's house and hooked a pipe up in about 10 minutes. Thanks again bro!

I wouldn't mind a chrome intake pipe just so I didn't have to worry about mine splitting again =P. Where can I find a weapon R? I've google searched them but always lead me back to the forums here but I can never find any links.

try umm something cheap like autopro's or something up here in canada we go to trusty Canadian tire
and they sell the WeaponR intake's for like 80$ tube and filter

You can find them at Andy's. There are A LOT of threads here about intakes, and the general consensus (not an opinion, having never owned one) but the WR's are a huge investment with little payoff. Just put together a 2" spectre setup or look around eBay. You'll save $100 or more and get the same results.

Unless you have cash to burn. In that case the Weapon's are pretty damn slick looking.
