Hey guys,

How many of you have lowered your wagon, or purchased an already lowered wagon? What suspension brand/set-up are you using? Coil springs, cut springs, coil overs, etc. After reading a recent thread on here, I didn't want to hijack it by requesting more photos from other users.

So here it is...got pictures of your lowered wagons?

Here are couple picts of my 97... It really isn't much lower than stock... Wish the front was another 1/2 - 1" lower. Used KYB ZX2 struts on all 4 corners, Spax MX3 1.3" drop springs on the front, Moog Cargos with about 2" of coil cut off in the back.

The car gets driven hard & my rims/tires are wide enough that I can't really go lower without rubbing the rear tires (even with the improved suspension- potholes & large interstate cracks at high speed are the problem)... I have 14's going on it for winter- will trim the return on the fender lip next spring before I put the 17's back on it!

Did any of you have a clunking noise when turning the vehicle back and forth after lowering it that was not there previously? Any idea what this could be?

Could faulty lower front coil spring isolators be the cause?

Can you tell where the clunking is coming from? Power steering? Bad Ball Joints? Loose bolts?

this is my 1994 wagon, its on M2 2" drop springs cut, Alot lol. it ride fine though, scrapes alot.
Looks like you cut about a coil and a half off of the already lowered drop springs? You mentioned a lot of scrapes but do your tires rub?

WOW! How many coils were left? You said you cut M2 lowering springs which are already short so cutting more than a couple of coils isn't going to leave much. I'm guessing you had maybe 4 or 5 coils left?

I had CV shaft issues after lowering my ZX2 back in the day... They made a ton of noise before I replaced them. I ended up replacing one of them a second time. Think that the angle was too straight & caused extra stress on the joints. Course I put about 140K on it (before selling it) after installing the lowering springs... Only other clunking I can think of would relate to an improperly installed mount, or a spring that is slipping in its seat/perch (due to lack of rubber isolator, or spring that is too short for the strut). Let us know what you find out!

on the front i have 3-4 rear alot left.
Surprised you haven't blown your struts or did you find someone selling short stroke struts that fit Escorts. Not sure I'd be that brave. What size wheels you running? 15's?

Have you thought of installing a skid plate underneath! You're going to break the neck off that Cat going over speed bumps if you're not careful! LOL!

My son was parking the wagon and he pulled up to far and hit the concrete parking barrier. Bent the outer tab of the cat but she's still tight so no harm no foul.

I found the problem. I forgot to re-install a small plastic round thing between the upper front spring isolator and where it bolts to the vehicle, which am assuming allows some play in the suspension. Took it for a test drive and everything is great.

I installed a set of 1.8" drop springs and new struts all the way around. The vehicle handles a lot better and there is no more head jerking when shifting through the gears.

Did you guys get any additional drop after the suspension "settled"? If so, how long did it take or how many miles?

Typically new springs take around 500 miles to start to settle in. I'd give it around 1000 miles and that should be where they will sit.
