Last time we put the gearbox on, we forgot to plug the vss. Next day we found under the car where it goes. Now I'm away from garage and cant get under car. Speedo sometimes works and sometimes not. I think that we didn't attach the plug quite well. How to get to VSS from above? What to remove and where?

Whenever I've had to mess with the VSS, I always removed the battery and the battery tray. The tray may not have to come out, but it seems like with it out, there's more room to reach down to the VSS.

yup, what cklaubur said. pull the battery and tray and it's fairly easy to access from there.

speedo/odo not working

saw this post and didn't know if this might be my problem too. my speedo/odo has been working off and on in the past month or so, as of recent it has been working less and less. I took off the cluster recently to check all the connections in the back but it hasn't seemed to help. so what is the vss, apparently its located......below the battery tray. what am i looking for just a plug? any help or ideas would be appreciated. thanks to all.

I'm having the same problem. Speedometer is cutting off more frequently now. Looks like I need to replace the sensor.

I'm not sure exactly what it looks like, either, but I did go to autozone.com and there is a photo of one. Best bet may be to buy a replacement first and then I'll know what to look for.
