are you talking about a speed limiter or a rev limiter?
speed limiters are designed to protect the car itself while the rev limiter will actually cut the fuel supply....I don't think you can take out either system...isn't it just programming in the ECU??

You can buy special chips to remove them but i don't think you can actully take it out.

Blue I can't remember which year/model escort you have. there is only a rev limiter on the 91-96 GTs. There seems to be a speed limiter on the auto tranny cars but that is up for debate. There is no point on removing the rev limiter. it protects the engine from you over revving it.

P.S. down shifter and over revving the engine will kill it. the rev limiter will only work on you revving it... not the wheels
