Guy says that the aftermarket liftgate support struts suck, so do this:
Thanks, I like the idea. And I have scrap PVC pipe lying around, also a variety pack of "O" rings.
And since the struts are so cheap at rockauto(dot)com, I bought a couple for one of my wagons, just to give them a try.
The ones on eBay are cheaper. I would just go ahead and replace mine, but they are really only a problem on really cold days, and even then sometimes they work.
Glad to see this topic come up since I've been searching the Forum for this info. The right lift on my '91 Hatchback, which won't keep the door up with both lift struts on, was really hard to push in when I got the end bolt out. The right one I couldn't push in, to get it back on I had to extend the door all the way open. That door must have a lot of weight on it. My question is how do I get the ends off the strut, can the knob be pried off? or do I need to buy the whole lift struts with the attachement on?
