So, what would my FEOA friends here recommend as an LED replacement for the overhead dome light, and the tailgate hatch light for our LX wagons?

(Maybe I should ask this over on the Interiors Forum?)

I would find the number for the incandescent version of the dome light in an auto parts store, then do a search on ebay for that number plus the word "led". Same thing for the license plate lights.
When you get to taking the license plate lights out, let us know how much trouble you have with the rusted screw heads holding the light fixtures into the gate. I have had to dismantle that plastic casting on the back of the gate, in order to be able to use my Dremel tool and a cutting wheel, to grind a slot in what remains of the head of the screws. (You cant reach the screw heads with the grinding wheel while the pastic casting is still on the vehicle. At least I was not able to.)
Then I replace them with stainless phillips-head screws from a Home Depot. Maybe due to living in a rusty-zone area, but getting the plastic casting unscrewed from the gate was a Lot of trouble. There are 3 screws you only get to from the inside of the gate (after removing the plastic interior panel), and one larger one you remove from the outside. Having done it to 3 wagons, I still have one more to do. Im very glad to have gotten the job done.
And be gentle with those light housings. They are sort of brittle after all these years. The housings used on the hatchbacks and sedans are not the same as the ones for a wagon; a shape just different enough to be non-interchangeable.

P.S. My personal experience is that while l.e.d.'s are capable of lasting longer than an incandescent, it Does Not mean they always will. They can go dark in a few weeks or months just like incandescents.

RockAuto has them. Phillips 30MMLED. $6.36 each.

They fit right in the dome and tailgate sockets.

Being LEDs, they are directional, so if it doesn't work at fitst, just turn it around.

So far, they are delivering a whiter and brighter light.

I've been meaning to change out those bulbs. I think they're T10's.
