Hello guys,
Im currently trying to fix this 95 LX with 200K miles and I’m going through the engine bay looking for old/corroded/ missing wires and hoses.
Not too sure what’s supposed to be connected here but it lets out air and makes the motor shake, but when I cover it with my finger the engine stops boggling.
If someone can help me with what’s supposed to go there I would appreciate it.

that hole is usually plugged. nothing attaches there. looks like someone has attempted to plug it with something at one point. you could put a screw or a bolt in the rubber boot

Fully agree with marclar. I have multiple 2nd gen LX escorts, but none of mine had come with cruise control - so I dont know where the vacuum pickoff for the cruise c unit was located. I have added a vacuum gauge to a couple of mine - and was glad to have a spare vacuum plug to replace with my vacuum gauge 1/8" p.t. connection. I suppose ii could have been a vacuum pickoff to a non-standard evap emissions unit. The OEM units had a vacuum line connected to the bottom of the throttle body, which was a 'ported' vacuum source. There should also be a vacuum line from the top of the intake manifold back to the items on the firewall, which have do do with making the EGR valve operate.

Take car of that vacuum line going to the brake booster. Its not just a hose; it has a one-way valve in it, barely visible as a very slight bulge in the hose.

I wanted to collect a car made the year I was born, but alas, I was born in 1944 - when detroit/flnt wasnt making passenger cars.

UPDATE
Plugged up the piece and it seemed to do the trick.
Below is another wire coming from the back of the engine near the Windshield Fluid Revisor.
Any ideas what this could be?

ok so that hose you have there is for the hvac, that is probably where the missing hose is that was leaking from the intake, connect the hose to the intake fitting

Did some digging around and found some helpful information. (All These Escorts are not mine, just references)
This one has the tube running to this item circled that I do not have on my escort.

Then we have this other picture where it leads to the random exposed wire I had shown

And finally there are a those that simply have a rubber cap over it.
If you’re right all I have to do is find a tiny hose that I can connect.

the unit in the circle is the cruise control box. which uses vac. its weird that some of the 95+ used vacuum acutators for the hvac, and previous years used cables. either way it looks right how you have it now.

As others have already pointed out...

The hose at issue [wires conduct electricity] is the vacuum hose that provides vacuum to move air doors in your Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning ("HVAC" ) system.
Lacking an intact hose, the blower may draw from and/or blow to destinations other than what has been selected by the dash controls.

Originally, the vacuum hose was a marriage of hard plastic tubing and pliable rubber hose.
Matching that construction exactly is not necessary (i.e. don't worry about tracking down replacement hard plastic tubing).
All that is necessary here is to create an intact length of vacuum hose sections to get the HVAC doors working properly and eliminate the vacuum leak causing poor engine behavior.
Replacement vacuum hose is readily available at any auto parts store, as are small plastic nipples [see the HELP section] used to join hose sections.
Build something to run from the open nipple on the intake manifold to the orphan length of hose dangling from the firewall.

As far as I can see from the photo that you sent, this hole is usually closed, only tightly! And nothing is attached there. I don't quite understand that they wanted to join him, or maybe they just put it on and forgot to close it. This often happens with machines that buy used, sometimes such caps are seen that the hair rises. Cool thing for this vehicle inspection report but it is not everywhere, few people use it, but it is very useful. I still see your other hoses in poor condition, so I would advise you to take care of them while there is time.
