I also posted in Escort Wagons. I have 1993 Escort Wagon. I have found a small leak of a pool of water about 3” across in the centre of the tailgate cover. I assume it is from the top as the headliner has sagged above it. Would a body shop deal with this? Car is in otherwise excellent condition.

    thanksv

Headliners sag, there doesnt have to be any leak.
I dont understand what you mean by the headliner cover. I have a leak on one of my 94LX wagons, but I only see it if I open the tailgate after a moderately heavy rain. I think the water is getting in between the glass and the rubber strip around the tailgate window.

I have only dealt with body shops twice in my life. Both times they quoted prices far far too high for me to be interested. Most of their business seems to come from insurance companies correcting damage from an accident. I wanted to know if they could make a minor repairs (a window was cockeyed in the window opening for instance), but they didnt give me any relaxation on their price. If you can find a repair shop that has some idle space - they mght give you a moderate quote for fixing a water leak.
    Good Luck.

I fixed a leaky sunroof on our 99 Saturn, using a cartridge of 100" silicone sealant. Worked wonders, and still doesnt leak after 8 years.

Thank you. It is there without opening the tailgate. There is no sign of water anywhere but right in the middle of the tailgate cover. Will examine the window seal, although I would have thought there would be water in another place. I have a very helpful body shop who I will ask when I run out of ideas!

We need pictures to better assess.

And since it might be difficult to see exactly where the water is pooling, it would be best to circle it.

OK, it rained like crazy here and I went out to take a pic, and no water !!
I will wait for water to appear again and post a pic.

I am very grateful for this forum and for your support. My local Ford dealer has serviced the car for 15 years and is very tolerant! His latest service showed no problems and he passes all his emissions tests with flying colours.
Best car I have ever had. Bought new, and 160,000 miles with minimal repairs..
