:? So here's the problem.. My tach sits at 3100 rpm the entire time my car is running, regardless of speed, gear or whatever. When i turn off the engine, it goes back down. I'm pretty clueless here. Any suggestions?
If your tach is lazy, replace the tach in the cluster. Those things aren't very reliable, and they aren't very fast tachs either. I'd recommend getting an autogage or a sunpro if you need a fast tach for autocross or anything.
Anyway... assuming you've got a GT, just make sure that you're getting a good signal from the yellow wire with a blue-green stripe. It's attached to the ignition coil and runs to one of the three prongs on the tach. The other wire to the tach is a 12V in, and the other is a ground. If you measure the signal wire, you'll find it reads about 14V and it DROPS in voltage as rpms increase.
Anyway, lazy tachs are usually caused by the tach itself and not the wiring.
