If i recall an old,old copy of car craft. I saw where ford shoved a yamaha SHO motor in a festiva!!! At the tech school i go to, they are putting an 89 turbo probe motor in a aspire!!!!!! POSSIBILITY"S
Ok you said with no MAJOR Tweaks right. Well I saw an article about an SHO in a Tempo I think it was, and the had to do a lot of cutting and fabricating. As far as Drop Right in type stuff, the older Tempos had the exact same engine bay as the 1st Gen Escort, and they came with 2.3L engines. Although not the same as the 2.3 SOHC af the Mustang/Ranger/T-bird fame, this OHV engine is larger in displacemant yet has less power than a 1st gen GT in it´s stock fashion. I´m sure with a few tweeks that could be changed. But seing as how you have a 2nd gen, I´m not too sure how it would work. My dream is to put a 2.0 DOHC Zetec SVT Focus motor in my Scort. I´m sure a 2.0 Zetec would fit nicely in a 2nd gen too. The SHO motor swap would be SWEEEEEEEEEET, but look at doing a lot of extra work.
Any body else here heard about the kit that Ford Racing is putting out to drop a 5.0 into a Focus and make it rear wheel drive??? Now THAT would be an awsome swap ino a 1st gen Scort. Namley mine. But I´d settle with the Zetec if I had to.
I wonder if i could findand fit into my car a SVT Contour 60 degree V6 with 200 hp stock. just like the Taurus SHO V6 I´d probably have to do some major refabricating with the intake/exhaust and other components under the hood.
You can get a Mazda 2.5 V6 into an MX3, there´s a kit for it. A buudy of mine did it. He wanted to know if I wanted the old 1.8 V6 for my egt. I might do it to an LX. So anyway I might think the escort´s engine bay is the same as an MX3s.
just a thought.... I had a 92 ford tempo with a 3.0 v6 taurus motor and a five speed. you wanna talk about fun. I have this feeling that you could fit that engine and tranny combo into a 2nd gen scort. the engine bay on a tempo isnt exactly huge and mounts were in about the same spot. there would probably be issues with the axles and fuel system but if you had a donor car I think it would be doable.
birddog......that would be a good swap for shure, they make a turbo for that engine also. ive been thinking of puting one in my 2000 cougar. also you can build a 3.0 ls engine (from a lincoln) that can be fitted with jaguar heads, that will link up with the same transmision
talk about a dream though.....it would take lots of money and time.
if i wanted to be like everyone else, i would have got a freakin mustang
a 2.5L KZ-LE engine, or a 1st gen 3.0 SHO engine. you´ll have to rework your engine bay either way, so i´d try for the 3.0, it´ll give you 30-35 more horsepower and it also has 230 lb ft torque over whatever the 2.5 has.
