I was driving down Gratiot (for all you Michigan folks, you know how it is) and I see these three 87-89 ish Civic hatchbacks all in a row driving like assholes, and I see them get into the turn around. Well, I slam on my brakes, get over 2 lanes into the turn lane and pray that I hit the next red light with them.

I pull up to the most riced out looking one (maroon colored and rusty with white 18's on the back and 15's on the front, a whale tail, and some stickers) and rev my engine. These two Asian dudes look at me through their sunglasses (mind you it's like midnight) and one taps his friend on the shoulder, points, and they both laugh. Finally, he revs back and the light changes. Well being the owner of an 88 Civic hatchback (Which everyone in my family so affectionately refers to as the blue turd), I already had a smile on my face because I knew I'd win, so I dusted him. Plain and simple, I handed his ass to him. Then he get's up to me at the next light (about 10 seconds later) and revs again. I looked over, gave him a smile, shook my head, and did it again. This time, I beat him and his friend's little rice burner, and I did it without really trying.

At the next light, they all switched lanes and stayed behind me. :)

This post didn't really belong in my Funniest Kill topic since it really wasn't a response to my original post so I gave it it's own topic. I know you are kind of new hwew, but when you post something like this after someone posts their kill is know as steppin on, or hijacking a post. It is better to put this in it's own topic. Although it was funny and easy it wasn't a response to the post before it.

Hehe... two more Hondas down tonight One, a red 95ish Civic hatch with a fart can, giant tach, and some black rims pulls up at the light and revs at me. Oddly enough, it was once again an Aisan guy with sunglasses (Once again at like midnight), and he was being tailed by his friends in a blue 93-95ish Civic. I ignore him, and look around for cops, and he's still revving.

I light a cigarette, look over at him, and shake my head. The light turns green, and he peels out, whereas I just get a quick start, not wanting to race at all. Well, then I see that he's being as nice as to give me the one fingered wave, so I double clutch 1st at like 10mph and peel out. I instantly catch up with him, hit second, and double clutch that at about 4k until I redline it, and then I hit 3rd hard. We're doing about 70 now, and I've got at least 2 carlengths on him, so I gave him the hazard lights flash, and slow down.

Well then his two friends line up next to me and start revving in their blue Civic with tinted windows, a few stickers, and some stock black steelies with no hubcaps. I look over and laugh as they rev at me, and the chick in the passangers seat gives me this look like I'd just talked about her momma or something. Well I dump the clutch and I never even see the front of his car except in my rearview mirror. We hit 50ish, and he just hits the turnaround.

Then, on my way home, I'm at this light lined up with a 2002ish red Cobra, and next to him, a newer black Camaro SS. They start revving, so I simply put it in neuteral and waited for them to do their thing.

It's bad enough to have people say "it's just an Escort" let alone to have them watch me get MURDERED by those two. hehe. It was a fun night... I got to trash some rice burners, see some badass cars race, and I got a complement on my TV's. :)

I'd love to pull up next to an SVT or SS and have them blow my doors off. That just makes me want one more when I see all those cubic inches in action. But they don't do it because what are they gonna say? "yeah I schooled an Escort GT last night." lol :D

I tried to get an SS to race with me down I469 last weekend, but he didn't want to. it was a brand new 02 SS silver with black SS lettering. *drool*

Reading this post has made me grin. I like racing the big muscle cars best. It challenges me. Especially through traffic, its not so much about muscle, as it is about driving skills and guts (or shall we say stupidity). It works when I'm a maniac. I'm a manic depressive. I literally drive a like a maniac; when I'm sick; or when I'm angry. I'm thinking about going to the track, but I don't want to do the drag stip. I want to do the curves. The escort has no chance on a straight a way. My car can pull HUGE g's though. I'm quite sure of that.

Keep talking guys, you're stories are fun to listen to. Better than any TV show or movie.

is it me or did he mention the Civics he raced were "riced out"?? and since he was with his friends (the Civic owners) and you just picked out the ricey looking ones, i am pretty darn sure that there was at least 1 Civic that "looked" stock but probably had some type of motor swap and/or turbo on their car. next time you see a group of cars, try messing around with a car that "looks" stock...because you may get your ass handed to you.

Nice kills but, double clutch an escort? uhmm sounds 2F2F for me... :D
2f2f? It's all part of agressive driving. It wins races, plain and simple. Being able to do it is one of the nice advantages to having a manual.
.. i don't really know what the "new" breed of sport compact car owners are doing to their poor clutches and calling it double clutching, but let me break it down for ya.

double clutching is when you're cruising in a high gear at a decent speed, but then need to go into a lower gear. for example, you're cruising at 45 in 5th gear, but want to haul ass, so you need to downshift to second.

double clutching is pressing the clutch to put the shifter in nuetral, then release it with the shifter in nuetral. You then get the engine speed up to match where it should be for 2nd gear (which for 2nd gear at 45 should be around 4500) then press the clutch again, put it into 2nd, then release it. This makes things MUCH easier on your clutch and transaxle, and your car doesn't "lurch" forward to speed the engine up.

Now if someone would explain to me wtf you all mean by double clutching, i'm all ears. :)

They mean 'double clutching' while they shift up instead of down. To uh, equalize the RPM's and thereby actually eliminate the need for synchroes. That's what synchroes are for guys. Also, try powershifting next time, you'll get a lot more speed out of it. Pull back or push forward towards your next gear, /gently/ on the stick until you feel resistance, then give the clutch a kick. If done right you'll be shifted up without losing too much RPM. Don't take your foot of the gas either.

Still lost.. shifting up, you want to keep your rpms up, and generally i never take my foot off of the floor, like you said. Using the clutch twice to do anything would slow the car down since the engine wouldn't be engaged for that period of time.

Escort93GT - care to explain?

coyote-x: That's how I powershift

When I say double clutch, I mean start off normal in 1st, redline it, shift to second, ride it hard up to about 4k, and with the gas still floored, push the clutch in, get it up to about 6k real quick, and let it back in so that it catches at a higher rpm. It works for me (although it's probally awful for the clutch), but I only do it when I race.

Also, you can get going in first, get up to about 15mph, double clutch it (still in 1st) and spin your tires. Your car will shoot forward, but like I said, I'm pretty sure it's not nice on your clutch.

Yeah, some may think that "double clutching" while upshifting is helpful, but it really isn't. It's a tad slower and doesn't serve much purpose. The only clutch technique that MIGHT help you when upshifting is to feather the clutch, build some RPM's and then dump the clutch to take advantage of the powerband quicker. However, for what this will end up doing to your clutch, it really isn't a good thing to do very often. (But when you do it right, it can be pretty fun.) Tito is right, double clutching is for downshifts. Big trucks are the vehicles that really utilize this technique.

Escort93GT, what your talking about is feathering the clutch (letting it partially out, but not fully disengaged) and it IS bad for your clutch. But you are right about it allowing you to accelerate quicker in certain situations.
