I like how you started a new thread for this, way to be supportive. Ever driven a Kia, if not how do you know how the quality is? That´s what I thought. ´if you don´t have anything nice to say, don´t say anything´
Besides who are we to talk? we all know first hand that Ford´s quality the past 20 years has basically gone down the drain.

Totally agree with you James. Korean quality is very much improved. Ever sat in the new Tiburon? Excellent. What about the Elantra GT even? Waaay better than our Escorts. The ergonomics of the new cars don´t scream "ECONOBOX" anymore. And with the 10/100 warranty, that´s excellent insurance for any issues that might arise. Why won´t Ford cover the Fukkus (and formerly the Contour/Mystique) with a 10 year warranty? Because they´d lose their butts in claims, that´s why. If I had to do it over again, I´d have gotten the new Sonata or Optima rather than that shitty Mystique. Try 11 dealer visits in the first 6 months. 14 in first year. And that was all I could stand.

My 1984 Escort GT was way more reliable than my 1995 LX is.

AHAA!! reason number 632,987 why I bought an 31 year old muscle car. Reliable. no expensive damn electronics to break. for the most part you can go to a local parts store and they carry in stock everything you could possible want for it. bearings, pistons, rings, carb kits, cams, intake, headers, full exhaust, tranny rebuild kits. all cheap. I too believe my 94 gt is more reliable than my 02 zx2. thats why my year old factory warranty car is parked on the street and my chevelle is now my daily driver.

How many reasons do you have total? I´d like to see the list. It would be VERY interesting ;-) :-]
But to back your point up I sometimes ride with a 63 year old hot rodder that talks about dual-quads, 350 Cubic Inches, and posi-traction non stop. He loves old Chevy stuff. but he can´t stand anything new...even the Corvettes. He´s got respect for them, but not because of the quality.

really, I didn´t realize kia´s were so unreliable. My mom´s had 180,000 miles when she traded it in in 2000, only oil changes and a timing belt to it´s name. So she bought a Optima, stilll no repairs to date. Remind me never to get advice from you fastford90, hahaha you seem pretty intelligent! Hahaha :) :-D :) :-D :) :-D

I´ll jump in and say that I think ford sucks. This is my opinion and I feel I am entitled to slam them because I have driven many many fords and I own two.

They´re econo boxes. Are they fun to drive? yes, definetly. Are they good for poor college students? Yes. Are they super great cars? no. they´re not meant to be great cars.

A car is a car, and we shouln´t be expecting our EGTs to be lancer evo´s or anything. The old fords were pretty bad, and the new fords have only gotten worse. Anybody driven the new ford escape? Somebody please kill that car... it´s the most hideous excuse for a suburbia SUV I´ve ever seen.

And kias look like shitboxes to me from what I have heard and seen, but I´ve honestly never driven one. A 10 year warranty is very very impressive, for any car manufacturer, period.

And I am saddened to see that as time progresses, cars are less and less friendly to work on. They´re plastic, electronic, and not good ol detroit muscle balls of steel. I like the fact that I can work on my EGT and not be dependant on a shop. Saved me tons of money and I take a lot of pride in my repairs.

congrats on the kia purchase, whoever it was.

I miss my 64 new yorker. Selling it will go down as one of the dumber things I´ve done.

it was amazing... if it would fire it was usually the points. grab a book of matches and stick it in there to adjust the gap. it would atleast run that way to get you home. besides it was like driving while sitting on a couch. I´ve been wanting to build a cruiser again.

ahhh the good old days.

the control and efficiancy that electronic control has brought to the auto industry is amazing. However you have to love how simply it was done in times past.

Thank you so much for bashing on my brand new car. How about when your furture/current wife gives birth I come over to the hospital and swear up and down that your child is the anitcrist! Sheesh! This car is WAAAYYY better than my old rust bucket escort. I love escorts just not the one I had. I wanted something new, not rusty, and with low miles, and I got EXACTLY that. So far I don´t see any quality issues with it that you wouldn´t expect in any new car. When I close my doors I hear a solid thunk, not a resounding rattle like in my escort. EVERY car has its flaws no matter what the price tag or brand name. Speaking of price tag, I got this car with many options for only 6800 after trade. I think thats a hell of a deal for a 2001 with only 17,000 miles. If I could afford it I WOULD have bought a different car; hell my first stop would have been the nearest BMW dealership. But guess what, I´m NOT a CEO or a superstar, I´m a soon to be college student living with my parents. I am very pleased with my new car and hope to have it for many years to come, so if you wanna bash on my car without ever having driven or seeing it, then fine, but you´ll get no respect from me and hopefully no one else.

Im happy for you bro!! By your reply Im guessing you´re pretty young. Thats just one less thing youre going to have to worry about. Hell as ify as i am about new cars, it would still be nice to have something new and reliable. Not something you have to baby sit like the majority of us. Im 22yr old and my 95 escort is the newest car ive ever owned, and one day id like to get a new car. Good for you!!!

egtdude, when my wife and i first started dating she owned an 85 chrysler fifth avenue. Not just that but a gold one to boot! Although it wasn´t much of a looker(unless cruising the rest homes for chicks) but it was the most comfortable car ive ever, ever!!!! driven in!!!! Like riding on air. The body was straight and it was solid just an old body style. We sold it last year after she had our baby boy. WHY!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss that car! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

2EGTs, don´t worry about it. Sure this board is here for opinions, but you´re right the´ve never seen or driven your car. one guy has driven a Kia but wasn´t impressed by the 5 minute test drive. go figure. Anyway, don´t worry about them. what matters is that you are enjoying your new found toy and I´m sure you´ll take care of it so that there wont´ be any problems with it. Good luck and have fun with it. I for one am against brand loyalty. buy what you want, when you want, if you want. ;-)

Thank you for your support. You know it could have turned out worse, I could be driving a new caviliar, sunfire, or neon. In fact I had the opportunity to buy a 01 neon, but absolutely hated it when I drove it. Not only that but it had power nothing (cept steering) and was the same price as the kia with many power options. Granted it was only a short test drive, but some things hit you immediatly, like the fact that there is no power and the a-pillar sweeps really low and inward and it feels like your going to hit your head off it. Now realize that I´m only 5´6", which is relativly short. Imagine a 6 footer trying to sqeeze in that thing! At least in my bashing of the neon I have real reasons to back it up. Of course, if someone else goes out and buys one I´m not going to harp on them and tell them what a POS it is, cause thats just rude and that person probably likes the car since they bought IT and not something else. Ok, time for me to shut-up. I´ve said my piece and will leave it at that.
