I was just wondering if anyone else was worried about sinking big bucks into a car with such a low loan value. Don´t get me wrong, I´d like to kick every ass at kelly´s for saying that my car is worth a big $900. It´s just that I only carry liability and I would hate to see all of my efforts wiped out in an accident.

Thats what my parents keep telling me...don´t sink your cash in that POS, go buy your WRX or Camaro...blah blah. I do it for the love of the car. If i wreck it, then i guess it´s wrecked... and I get money for a new car. There´s always a chance of doing lots of stuff to your car and it´s all taken away with one fowl swoop of fate and stupidity. But thats a chance we all have to take, no matter how much our cars are worth.

In all reality, I´d like to get one of those two cars as a second spinner. The WRX is in fact, my ultimate dream car. It´ll rip my Friends Mustang GT a new asshole, but only until 120 mph, where it´s electronically limited to, and the Z28 will dust the Stang with just as much ease as the WRX, but it tops at 160 mph... New, both the Z28 and WRX cost roughly the same, difference of a few grand with options. Ever since he bought that stupid Stang, he´s got the biggest head and it´s been pissing me off. So I want something to kill him back with. But the difference is, I won´t sit there and be an asshole and brag about it like he did. (we´re not talking anymore, but not because of this thing.)http://www.cardomain.com/id/james92scort is my homepage.
I have a list of cars that i´d like to get one of them.
But first and foremost, I love my Escort, mainly because it´s the FIRST Car that I own Everything to, the title, the seats, shifter, steering wheel, cd player, speakers, heck I even own the brown dirt covering my car at the moment!! ITS ALL MINE!!!!

I don´t want to give up this website either, I´m about to beat TheBlade in Over-poster status as I´m coming up on his 530+/- posts Real strong now

Keep on Scortin´ man, I´m going to. Hopefully until the car dies, then I might just put in either another 1.8L DOHC BP engine, or a ZX2 Engine and Transmission. hehe
My parents think I´m nuts, but I think the same of them too. Besides, it´s your money, your car...do with them as you please!!

OH yeah, i forgot, I went to the Subaru Dealership last March and the guy said I couldn´t test drive a WRX without plopping down a 500 dollar security deposit...reason? The first WRX they got at the dealership, some ass-clown took it for a spin and totalled it, so now we all have to pay for it. Jackass...... I haven´t ridden in a Camaro for a long long time. But I can just imagine it from the feeling of power from my friends Stang...only even MORE powerful

He´s ruined the Mustang for me...and I´m going to do everything I can to kill them all, 3800 V6´s and the 4600 SOHC V8 GTs. What about the Cobra´s you might ask? Well...their competition (Camaro SS) is a tad bit out of my price range at the moment.

If I had the chance to get a car right now, no matter the price, I´d have to go with either the NEW Corvette Z06 and the 2003 WRX. One for summer killings, and one for winter beatings

Dude, if you love your car stick with it. Trust me, high car payments suck. Especially after the initial thrill wears off. I bought an 01 Jetta VR6 two years ago and it definitely kicks ass, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have just bought a scort instead!

I am sticking with it. but the thing is i want another car for winter beating... the WRX looks mighty tempting when you find a brand new ´03 model on Ebay for under $10,000 dollars
I´m sick of walking everywhere when my EGT dies, but I´m giving myself a while to think about getting another car.

Oh yes the WRX is a tasty morsel. Fortunatley the dealership here will hand out the keys to anyone. I drove one a couple of months ago and was rather impressed, although it didn´t feel as fast as the hp numbers suggest.

I wish I could tell you about this first hand, but, i have to rely on the fact that I´ve researched this car inside and out. Hell, I even know all the colors real names that can come on this car

When the turbo spools up at around 3k rpms, the 227 horses and 217 lb ft torque bring this little 3000 lb car to 60 in 5.4 seconds, and hit the 1/4 mile in 14.7 seconds. To top it off, it´s All Wheel Drive. That means for one, that lots of power is being lost between the flywheel and the tires. and two, it´s slightly safer to drive in the snow, slightly. (as opposed to the Escort GT) Dyno tests show that only 147 hp make it to the rear wheels.
I plan on taking in my Escort to a dyno shop some weekend to see how much power is actually making it to the ground. I´ll post the results on here as soon as i get em.

Way I figure it, used scorts are cheaper than say civics. That leaves extra money to fix it or mod it!
It´s great being able to OWN a car. My scorts are the first things I actually owned since my 87 GTI 16v. It is great not to have payments.
I actualy had a scort and a dub this summer. My lease on my 00 GTI VR6 was up in October. Yes the VR6 flies, but a week after turning mine in, I got a 2nd scort. Just wrote a check and its mine!
If you´re really worried about the insurance, it seems there must be some way to ensure the modified value of the car, rather tham its low book value. Would mean higher premiums of course, so I don´t see why some ins co wouldn´t be happy to take your money if you ask. Does anyone know for sure?

By the way, welcome aboard 2FordsandaDub!!!

The problem with finding a car that´s still under warranty is if you do one mod to it, it probably isn´t going to be covered under that warranty, and if it blows your engine or whatever the mod was to... You´re screwed. Subaru isn´t going to replace your engine if you blow it up.
So part of the reason i´d get another car would be to just mod my escort and drive that other car around town. The second reason is AWD (not 4WD) AWD sounds like SO Much fun in the snow...heck I was just fishtailing around corners in my escort earlier. that´s fun in itself, it snowed about 3 hours ago and it´s all icy

I just hope my friend in his Mustang GT is going to be extra careful this winter and not do anything stupid, if I´m sliding in a 127 hp, 114 lb ft torque FWD car that easily, a RWD car with 260 hp and 302 lb ft torque is going to be flyin and spinnin everywhere...

Yeah, RWD cars are just no good at all once the roads are slick, specially with lotsa power. I had a 90 300ZX once, loved the car to death till it snowed, and snowed, and snowed one winter. Ended up trading it in on a Pathfinder. Now I would only buy a RWD car if I had something else to drive if it snows.
Are you sayin you want a 2nd car so you can mod the scort and not drive it? Seems to defeat the purpose. If you mod it to make it more fun to drive, then why not drive it? I can see parking it when it rains or snows, or only driving it on weekends tho

Me, I drive my 91 most of the time. It would be fun to mod it, but the car has sentimental value to me as is, so I plan to just keep on drivin it till I have to push it. The 94´s my wild card. For now, I´m just cleanin it up a bit gettin it in like new condition. I want to keep the miles low, so I drive it just enough to give it some exercise. In future I´ll either: sell it to a friend, cause I want her to have a good car to take to college with her; mod it for myself; or trade it for a better scort(5spd, GT?) We´ll see.

Hey 2Red I think we are on the same page. Owning a car is a great feeling, not that I own my scort yet, but I do own my truck which I would eventually like to mod. How funny that we both have had a taste of european luxury, but still return to the venerable old escort. My Jetta gets driven maybe once or twice a week, but I´m trying to keep the mileage down. I may sell it later on, I dunno.

Yeah, and here I was scratching my head, wondrin what a DUB was, till you mentioned your Jetta. Finally the lightbulb went on. Duh!
Bet your truck´s a Ford. Mine´s a Chevy, but I lease it for my business. It´s 4x4, so that´s what I drive if it snows. Not that scorts won´t go in the snow, but I don´t want to risk some bonehead sliding into me (deja vu)!!!

Wanna hear more bout your scort!

Yep, my truck is a 97 Ford F150. I´ve had it for over six years and just turned it over to 100k last week, or should I say my sister turned it over . Ive driven that truck for six years and she takes it one evening and comes home and says that it turned over. Man was I pissed, I wanted to be the one to do the honors. Oh well. My scort is a 91 egt; red with a sunroof and a five speed stick. I´ve wanted one for ten years, every since my first car which was a 90 escort pony. You know the kind with only one outside mirror and only four gears. My second scort was a 92 Lx-E. My mom had one at that time also, but mine did not last for long. I accidently did a triple lutz on the highway one winter day and hit an embankment......scary. I strayed away from escorts for six years until I laid eyes on my gt which was sitting on a used car lot. I knew she would be mine, oh yes I knew she would be mine . Long live goosey loosey.

2red: here´s my reasoning behind not wanting to drive the Scort to fix it up. Being that it´s MY ONLY car to drive, I can´t drop it off at a shop to have the engine rebuilt. I´d be stuck at home every night. I gotta go to Wendy´s for dinner, ya know?
If i have my WRX to drive when My scort has down-time for a rebuild. Then I´m good to go. And if I make my Scort as fast as my WRX, I´ll scare the hell out of WRX drivers, drivers of the new Neon SRT-4, and anyone else on the road. Not to mention my Friend and his V8 Mustang GT.
If I rebuild my Scort, I´m not going to let it sit there all the time and only drive my other car...nah, I´ll be switching back and forth every day or so
hehe
I´ve had horrible luck keeping this Escort running nicely. And it has broken down and left me stranded. If i have a second car. i can drop it off at a shop and still not worry about whether or not I can go to Wendy´s

Also, I´d be able to park the Scort for the winter in storage like ShinyBlueEscort does. I want to get that rust fixed so I can get the body kit and have it painted baby blue. Driving it in more salt snow and ice isn´t helping that at the moment...

Yeah James, it´s definitely nice to have a 2nd car to drive when one is down, and now that you mention it, I guess yalmost need one if you plan any serious mods for your 1ts ride. Takes shop time and all...
So happy car shopping! Settled on the WRX then?

I´ve been settled on the WRX since it was put on sale in March of 01. hehe I LOVE that car, ask me something about it, if i don´t know the answer, (doubt I won´t) i can find it easily. 227 hp @ 6000rpms 217 lb ft @ 4000 rpms, 2.0L F4 (boxer 4) 16-valve with dual overhead camshaft. Sequential multi-port fuel injection system. Turbocharged to 14.2 psi, intercooled, Power-assisted with dual diagonal hydraulic circuits and 4-channel/4-sensor anti-lock braking system (ABS). Front: 11.4-inch ventilated discs with twin-piston calipers. Rear: 10.3-inch discs. Rack-and-pinion with engine-speed-sensing variable power assist. 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Turning Circle: 35.4 FT. Full-time AWD system automatically distributes power between front and rear wheels based on traction needs. Manual transmission models (my kind of model right there) have a viscous-coupling locking center differential. (WRX models only) have a viscous limited-slip rear differential. Most of this I know off the top of my head.

My ex wiped out a 75 chev caprice 2dr that I bought from my grandmother for $600.The insurance company offered me $900 and I refused it I proved the condition of the car brought them advertisements for comparable cars I got $3500 and kept the car which I sold for $200.plus they paid her medical,$2500 then they paid for a month on a rental car, plus another $4000 for pain and suffering so for my $600 I walked away with $10,000 because we had medical insurance but they didn´t have to know that.Bottom line is If you can prove the loss you will get paid. And it was a loss because I had several offers on the car and an invitation to join a pretty exclusive car club cause it was a sweet car.when she called me from the hospital she got really pissed cause the first thing I asked was "How´s the car?"But hey, she was on the phone so I knew she wasn´t dead.Right?.......
