I was at APG Performance on Sunday with my grand prix buddies. We had a dyno day and it was awesome. I laid down 104.2 HP @102.9 Torque. I have 2 1/4 exhaust no cat dynomax ultra flow, denso iriduim plugs, nology wires, intake, venom 400, MSD coil, and 125,000 miles. I should of changed my oil because I am at 2800 miles on the current oil in the car, and it is dirty, I just was too tired. Next I am porting and polishing my head, throttle body and the GUDE cams and porting the exhaust manifold and then I will go back and see what I got. :-D

Holy crizap in my pizants....You´re only losing 7 hp and 4 lb ft torque in the drivetrain??? You have more power than what comes stock on that engine because There´s no way you´re only losing 5.5% of the hp through the drivetrain. :-o :-?
Cobra´s scort sounds closer to what should be getting lost... 18.11% of the hp is being lost through his drivetrain.

if i remember correctly the escort heads do not need to be polished, they come stock prety smoth, and there is not much more that you can port the heads eather, weather it be an lx or a gt. ford built some pretty good stuff, they may not make much power but the engine itself is built for best performance( not to be confused with horse power). the rods are also pretty smoth so the oil wil run off pretty fast. if you want to port something port the gaskets, there your biggest restriction, you´ll see what i mean if you ever take your head apart, when you have to put it back togeather.

I dunno man. I don´t doubt you, but the VICS plenum and intake runners I have sittin here don´t feel real smooth to me on the inside. Maybe I´m just expecting them to feel like ice or something. I´m sure the VE is pretty high, but I bet that you could get it much higher with a good port n polish job.

oh yea they could defenatly be polished beter but, the amount of time you would spend geting them as smooth as ice or glass, would be unreal. the intake manifold it self could be boared out a little maybe polished, but it would be hard. keep in mind now that my speacilty is the lx and the zx2 motor. as for the gt, im not sure about the intake but the exhaust is suposed to be just fine how it is.

To me, it will be worth it. I just spent a week and a half painting the 3 piece spoiler on my car, performance value? none what so ever.... but it makes the car look at least that 1% better than it did with a pink wing. I´m willing to spend the time and cash upping the VE for my intake...it all equals more hp and better turbo efficiency :-] ;-)

i totally agree that anny thing you do to the car is worth it. but like i said, im not familiar with the gt motor enough to help you much. but some ones goto respond to a post other than james lol. they do make after market manifolds for the 1.8 but finding one would be hell, considering you would probably have to go out of the country to find one. i have a picture of it some were, i´ll fine it for you. but in the mean i wish you all the luck on the project.

I´m a post whore. i´ll answer you till i fall asleep on the keyboard :-] But yeah check out my cardomain site and you´ll see my block i´m rebuilding and turbo´ing. i have a set of heads and the runners sittin in my garage too. I´m gonna do everything I can.

I´ve been thinking about gettin everything balanced and lightened to see if I can get a new ECU and reset the rev limiter to about 9000-9200 rpm. 240 hp N/A, then turbo that. Wouldn´t that be sweet? i know it´d be unique :-o

yes i did pull 117.#hp
i was not bymyself, people were there! zx2 guys with more money and more hop ups and add ons had less hp then me!
my list is
1. prm intake! wich is only to the vaf the rest of the pipe was stock, and stock vaf
2. sebring muffler! just the muffler stock header that came on the car and stock 2" piping!
3. unorthadox underdrive pulley,
4. new belts
5. new timming belt
6. 87 octane
8 no other mods or spped secrets, timing left at stock everything else from other than what you see above was the way the car came a daily driver from a woman who left it stock to drive to work, and did like a basic basic tune up before i bought it! for all i know everyhting else under the hood still is stock from the day of new i dont know!
and i had 114000 miles at time of dyno!

As for the porting and polishing, I think it is worth it. Both the head and the intake manifold can be massaged. I match-ported the header to the ported head, match-ported the intake manifold to the ported head, and disassembled the intake manifold to open and smooth its passages. In the process, I decided (rightly, or wrongly) to remove most of the wall that separates the primary chamber from the secondary. While I was at it, I opened the throttle body throat and tapered it and thinned the throttle plate shaft and flat-topped the screws, although I didn´t change the plate size, or open the actual throat passage.

I did this with a host of other modifications during my rebuild, so I couldn´t say how much this actually adds. Dyno results? Couldn´t say. All I can tell you is that I am running with Honda S2000´s and Audi S4´s, and I´m more than ok with that.

There is no secret to horsepower. Every little bit helps.

Marcus
