i was lookin at the sections of the HHU forum and they have a domestic section which is mainly for V8's and an import section. where would our escorts fit into? i know the EGT's r 100% mazda but wouldn't that classify them as an import? and what about the other's that r 50% mazda 50% ford?

in my opinion, the escort is all ford. i know it has lots of mazda parts, but it was ford who decided how they were all put together.

ford made the escort, they just chose to put in a mazda based drivetrain and sh!t

I hate to disagree with you on that one Treeps, the BG chassis is a Mazda design, 100% for the 2nd gen Escorts. Ford just re-skinned it and made their own economy engine, it to sell here in large numbers. Ford designed the exterior panels and interior. There are other subtle differences even between the Escort and her sister, the Protege/323 that are not cosmetic, but share same chassis. Having the BP engine in it just makes it more Mazda.

yeah escort GT's are just 2 door protege's really, only difference is ford designed the skin and interior. for example the mazda protege front clip will bolt on any 2nd gen scort, head lights, bumper, hood, fenders, all direct bolt on, I THINK the head lights are direct hook up too no wiring changes! turn signals might be direct too but unsure.

yea, there isn't much "ford" in 91-96 escorts. iirc body panels, interior (kinda, but is way too similar to be all ford) , engine on the lx, hvac, and cruise control. EVERYTHING else is mazda.

Reminds me of the discussions regarding the "foreign" manufacturers and when they have a plant in the US. Does that make it an American made "Japan" car??

My 95 Tracer says "Ford" and "Made in Canada" on alot of things. It's really got some personallity issues.

i always assumed mine was made in mexico, but mine said made in like indiana or something like that. it was on the sticker on the windshield and somewhere else i believe. i have since had the front windshield replaced though so i'm not sure.

every part that i've seen the words "made in" were followed by either canada or japan.

i also really wanna do a klze swap into my escort so that way i can say "yea, i have a mazda v6 in my ford, and a chevy v8 in my mazda."

No Canadian plant ever put out an Escort.
The 2nd gen and its Mazda twin were made on the same assembly line by Ford workers in a ford plant in Wayne Michigan.
I think some 3rd gens, which used that same chassis, were made in Mexico but I don't think any 2nd gens were, at least not for sale in USA or Canada. But I could be wrong.
